With Star Trek: Picard season 2 almost upon us, it is time for a Star Trek: Picard season 1 recap, plus our season 2 theories.

    Star Trek: Picard Season 1

On January 2020, Patrick Stewart made his grand return as the beloved Captain Jean Luc Picard, in the Paramount+ original series, Star Trek: Picard. Set twenty years after the events of Star Trek Nemesis, where Picard and the crew of the USS Enterprise-D were seen for the last time, the sequel series presented a now retired Picard, who has left Starfleet behind.

Star Trek: Picard Season 1 Recap

Picard was known to be loyal to Starfleet, and him choosing to leave must have been for a major reason, and that reason was revealed to be that Starfleet refused to rescue the Romulans after a supernova was going to destroy their planet and synthetics went rogue. As a result, synthetics were outlawed and Picard became disillusioned with Starfleet. Picard later meets Dahj, who turns out to be the genetic daughter of Data. However in a twist, Dahj dies in the pilot, and it’s revealed that she has a twin named Soji, who is onboard a Borg ship.

Throughout the season, we were introduced to new characters, as well as witnessing the return of beloved characters. The season in a way felt like a warm hug from someone you know and love, and making a new friend at the same time. Star Trek: Picard is reminiscent of old Star Trek, while also having a new voice of its own.

Star Trek: Picard Season 1 Recap

By the end of the season, we got to say a proper goodbye to Data, and the synthetic ban has been lifted, leaving Soji able to live her life. Perhaps the biggest twist is having Picard become a synthetic himself, after his health conditions catch up to him and his consciousness is transferred to a synthetic body. The season culminated with Picard and his new crew of La sirena, getting ready for the next adventure.

Star Trek: Picard Season 2 Theories

Season two was delayed due to the ongoing pandemic, but on April 2021, it was announced that season two would see the return of another fan favorite character: Q.

Q made his debut in Star Trek: The Next Generation, and has long been an adversary of Picard. Q is known to be able to manipulate time and space for fun, so him making his grand return, would mean that he will be causing some chaos in Picard’s new life. According to the teasers, Picard and the rest of La Sirena crew will find themselves in the year 2022, could it be that Q has trapped them in an alternate reality and is having fun seeing them trying to figure it out? Probably.

Star Trek: Picard Season 1 Recap

Is everything that will happen in season two, Q’s doing? Or is the Borg? Picard has a long history with the Borg, after being assimilated and becoming Locutus of Borg in Star Trek: The Next Generation and confronting the Borg Queen in Star Trek First Contact, Picard has a long history with the Borg, and it was brought up in season 1, and after the announcement of Annie Wersching being cast as the Borg Queen, Picard and one of his biggest nemesis will most likely face each other again. The question is, will Locutus emerge once more?

How exactly will the effects of Q’s meandering with time and space affect the Starfleet we know? The characters old and new?

One thing is for certain, things are about to change in the Star Trek world.
