Superman & Lois continues to prove with each episode that it is one of the best shows in the Arrowverse. “The Thing in the Mines” is a perfect example of how to structure multiple storylines, with each standing out. So let’s dive into this fantastic episode of Superman & Lois! SPOILERS! You have been warned!

Warning: Spoilers for Superman & Lois 2×3 “The Thing In The Mines” Ahead

We have to start at the end of this episode because I would be doing a disservice to this review if I waited. I have been saying for a while that revealing what is in the mines would have a twist. What came out of the mines wasn’t Doomsday, but rather Bizarro!
The big mystery is how he got down in the mines and where he comes from. I haven’t been this excited about the show in a long time, and I’m always anticipating the next episode. Bizarro fighting Superman was the episode’s highlight, with each punch shaking the screen. I could have easily seen more, but this was just a tease for future fights down the road.
With Bizarro revealing himself and heading to the Fortress of Solitude at the end, I question where the season is heading. Is Bizarro truly the villain this season? Or is this another twist where he doesn’t want to fight anyone?
The true monster is who is behind the creation of Bizarro. They could reveal that no one created him, which would be another twist to add to the show. There are many directions they could take this character now. The possibilities are endless with this character, and fans can’t wait for more!

While I could sit here discussing more Bizarro and what this means for the show. We have other things to tackle and segway towards the boys. Starting with Jonathan, he continues to be obsessed with a fellow football teammate.
Jonathan was correct that he was taking a drug (turning out to be X-Kryptonite), but finding out his girlfriend is supplying said drug was shocking. I assumed Jonathan would break it off with her, but instead, he asked her to sell him some.
Jonathan is a teen, so of course, he will make mistakes, but seriously? This decision will end horribly, and I’m afraid of the aftermath. Some theorize that he is getting the drug, so Clark or John Henry test its lethality, but it could easily be for himself.
Jordan is still dealing with the revelation that Sarah kissed a girl at camp. After speaking with his brother, Jordan believed that telling Sarah the truth of his powers and his father is Superman and everything would make things easier in the long run.
This conversation causes Clark to have what I call one of his “rage moments” because Jordan wasn’t listening to him. We learn that Clark was experiencing the rage from Bizarro, and ultimately shows the connection between the two.
Finally, Jordan gifts a necklace to Sarah after realizing he loves her, knowing that their relationship is more important than her kiss. Clark agrees to have a conversation with Jordan in a year about him revealing his secret to Sarah if they are still together.

Lois’ father returns to initially help John Henry Irons into the mines to investigate what is down there. However, the true motive behind his return is for Lois to speak with him about her sister Lucy. We learn that General Lane wouldn’t pick either daughter’s side over the situation involving Lucy being in a cult.
He finally reads Lois’ article about Ally, the cult leader, on her involvement with a woman’s death and how she has hurt Lucy. Lois’s heart-to-heart conversation with her father about their past was crucial for us, especially them. Ally, the cult leader Lucy is still a part of, meets Lois at the end of the episode instead of Lucy.
The scene cuts before anything is spoken between them, which I think will be a very tense exchange of words. This storyline feels like it will be the main focus for Lois this season, and it has her deal with her credibility on the line. Lois is a renowned journalist, so a podcast that brings up her past work, questioning her sources, hits very close for her.
I’m curious as to how this whole situation will move forward. My guess is this storyline will be emotional and anger-filled conversations on who is in the right. I feel Lois will be able to get past this, but t what cost?

Lana is running for Mayor, which makes the most sense for her. Lana cares for Smallville, and her fighting to make the changes it needs fits her character. She asked some tough questions about her loans plan and questioned her past issues with people in the town over similar problems. Lana has made mistakes and has to own up to them to be trusted to run the town.
This line of hard questions was a blow to her self-esteem, but she picked herself right back up with trying a new approach to show her everyday life at home on a live stream. At first, I wasn’t sure what Sarah’s family would be doing this season, but now it makes more sense.
This season, Superman & Lois have done a phenomenal job, and nothing will stop them now. I hadn’t lost faith as the show proves itself time & time again. There is no telling what will occur in the next episode, but I can guarantee it will be something worth watching every second.
About Superman & Lois
After years of facing supervillains, monsters and alien invaders, the world’s most famous superhero, The Man of Steel aka Clark Kent and comic books’ famed journalist Lois Lane come face to face with one of their greatest challenges ever — dealing with being working parents in today’s society.
Complicating the already daunting job of raising two boys, Clark and Lois worry about whether their sons, Jonathan and Jordan, could inherit their father’s Kryptonian superpowers as they grow older.
Returning to Smallville to handle some Kent family business, Clark and Lois are reacquainted with Lana Lang and her Fire Chief husband, Kyle Cushing. The adults aren’t the only ones rediscovering old friendships in Smallville as the Kent sons are reacquainted with Lana and Kyle’s rebellious daughter, Sarah.
Of course, there’s never a dull moment in the life of a superhero, especially with Lois’ father, Gen. Samuel Lane looking for Superman to vanquish a villain or save the day at a moment’s notice.
Superman & Lois is available to stream on The CW now.
