This chicken kapama pasta recipe has been passed through my family for generations. A delicious Greek dish to change up your dinners!

    chicken kapama recipe

Chicken Kapama was one of my favorite meals growing up. I am part Greek (my father’s side), and Greek dinners were something my mother learned to make. So of course, as soon as I ventured out on my own, I asked her for the family recipes. Now my children are growing up with Greek dinners every now and then and guess what? They ALWAYS devour them!

This Chicken Kapama recipe always seemed intimidating to me. I was terrified to try making it because it was one of my favorites and I was afraid I would ruin it. But I am so glad that I did because Chicken Kapama is something my whole family asks for now! We have it at least once a month.

    Chicken Kapama Ingredients

As with most family recipes, a lot of the ingredients tend to be eyeballed. This is the amounts we have written down, although I have been known to put in a little more lemon juice or chicken broth on occasion, should the sauce start to thicken up.

    • 3 large chicken breasts
    • spaghetti, or preferred pasta
    • 1/2 stick butter
    • 3/4 cup lemon juice
    • 6 oz. can of tomato paste
    • 1 1/2 cups chicken broth
    • 2 tablespoons cinnamon
    • 1 tablespoon garlic powder
    • salt to taste
    • pepper to taste

    Chicken Kapama Directions

First, melt the butter in a pan. While it is melting, cut your chicken breasts in half. Be careful not to brown or burn the butter.

Sear chicken on both sides, but don’t let it cook all the way through yet.

Add in chicken broth, tomato paste, lemon juice, and spices. Stir well. Let it come to a boil before reducing to low heat and covering.

Let simmer for about 45 minutes, stirring occasionally. If the sauce starts to thicken too much, add a little lemon juice and/or chicken broth.

After about 30 minutes, you can start to break up the chicken to ensure it cooks all the way through.

Cook pasta according to box directions while letting the chicken and sauce still simmer.

The chicken should be thoroughly cooked about the same time the pasta is done. Be sure to check before serving.

Serve chicken and sauce over pasta and enjoy!
