As you may or may not know, my husband and I are huge Star Wars fans. We attended Star Wars Weekend at Walt Disney World for our honeymoon, and even walked out at our reception to the Imperial Death March. So to say we have been waiting for The Last Jedi to hit theaters for a while now is an understatement. We were both really excited to see how this movie fit in. I know some Star Wars fans out there were not happy with it, but we both were. Here are my 5 favorite moments – and a few honorable mentions – yeah, it was hard to narrow it down.
Warning, anything you read further will contain some pretty heavy spoilers of Star Wars: The Last Jedi.
Rey & Kylo
Rey and Kylo Ren (Ben Solo). Light and Dark. The interaction between these two was one of my favorite parts of the film. Whenever they would see each other, it was meaningful. These were my favorite parts of the movie because we learned a lot about both of them. We discovered what really happened between Luke and Ben, as well as where Rey came from. The moment that Kylo chose to save Rey and kill Snoke gave me chills. And part of me totally wanted her to take his hand and rule with him. I mean, they would make a pretty badass couple. Here’s to hoping that ends up happening somehow down the road.
Yoda Burning Down the Tree
Yoda showing up in this film made my heart happy. The timing was perfect and I loved seeing him joke with Luke (at Luke’s expense again). When he created the lightning that burned the tree, and he started laughing, and kicking his little feet – I couldn’t help but smile and laugh out loud. It was truly one of my favorite moments in the film because 1. I adore him, but 2. because of the message. The Jedi are so much more than a tree and some books (even though Rey has the books in her possession, which I also love!).
Rose Saving Finn
The interaction between Rose and Finn throughout the film was great. From the moment they met when she was fangirling over him, to just a few moments later when she stunned him, to her saving him at risk of killing herself, and of course, that quick little kiss. The reason this is in my top moments is because of what she said. The battle isn’t about destroying evil, it is about saving things that you love. What a great message.
R2-D2 and Luke
When Artoo projected Leia’s original message from A New Hope, I couldn’t help but laugh and tear up all at the same time. Talk about coming full circle. In my mind, at least, I think that is what put Luke over the edge and made him want to help. Which leads me to my next favorite part of the movie.
Luke Saving the Day
Luke had to have known that projecting himself that far, for that long, would likely kill him. And he did it anyways. He gave the rebellion that spark that they needed to move forward. And I loved it. His death was so peaceful, and I think it really helped to move the whole story forward into the next episode. All that being said, I do hope we see him again in the future, in some way.
Final Thoughts
Of course there are other notable great moments. Like just about anything Poe Dameron did, and Justin Theroux’s cameo. Obviously the Porgs and every single thing they did. Overall, I thought this movie was fantastic. As a huge Star Wars fan, I approve. I have read a lot of people being negative about it, but they just don’t like change, I think. Change is sometimes good. In my opinion, Rey’s parentage was perfection. As was Snoke’s death.
Every single time I saw Carrie Fisher on the screen, I teared up. My heart melted when Kylo couldn’t press the button to fire on his mom – and I REALLY wanted Kylo to turn to the light side at that very moment. There were many times that they could have easily killed off Leia so that they didn’t have to worry about not having Carrie for the next film, but they didn’t. I adore that. The story was perfect as it was, and losing her would have been too much for fans, I think. My thoughts are they will kill her off silently and we will not see her in Episode IX, or she will be in the first few moments and then die. I hope they stick to not using CGI on her, and dig through old footage if needed.

Re: Yoda burning the tree
“The Jedi are so much more than a tree and some books.” The books aren’t there. Towards the end you see Finn putting a jacket (or something) into a drawer and the books are there in the Falcon. Goes along with Yoda’s line “Wisdom they held, but that library contained nothing that the girl Rey does not already possess. ” He knows she had the books and used it to teach Luke the lesson in failure.
Yes, yes, I did see that Rey has the books. And I know that. I guess I meant Luke THINKING he burned the books as well. Perhaps I will rewrite that sentence.
