Rising Japanese boy group ONE OR EIGHT have released their new digital single, “YANKEE SQUAT,” out now on all platforms. The track serves as the lead pre-release single from the group’s forthcoming EP, EN-GÏNE, set to release September 16th, 2026.
Blending Japanese street culture with the group’s bold, boundary-pushing identity, “YANKEE SQUAT” delivers a laid-back yet confident groove centered around themes of freedom, friendship, and self-determination. At its core, the song reflects ONE OR EIGHT’s belief that everyone has the power to create their own place to belong.
Drawing inspiration from the iconic Japanese “yankee squat,” a symbol of individuality and community within Japanese street culture, the track captures the spirit of forging your own path and finding connection on your own terms. That message resonates strongly with ONE OR EIGHT’s journey as a group, particularly following their recent expansion onto the global stage. The track is accompanied by a vibrant music video that brings audiences into Japanese street culture further, showing the members performing the “yankee squat” pose in various locations as overseas researchers observe and study the pose.
To celebrate the exciting release, ONE OR EIGHT has launched Konbini108, an exciting new interactive site where fans can immerse themselves in an authentic Japanese convenience store and order items inspired by each member. Once fans have completed their order, they’ll receive a shareable digital receipt revealing which member their shopping choices match most closely with based on the items they selected. The site launched on July 15th at 5:00 PM PT / 8:00 PM ET for fans everywhere to enjoy.

Fans were able to continue the celebration on July 16th JST, as ONE OR EIGHT took the stage for ONE OR EIGHT 1st LIVE TOUR -GATHER- FINAL, which took place at Zepp Haneda, Tokyo, and marked the culmination of their enormously successful ONE OR EIGHT 1st LIVE TOUR GATHER. Beginning at 6:00 PM JST, fans were able to stream the highly anticipated finale live free of charge on Z-aN. The first 10 minutes of the concert were also streamed live on the group’s official YouTube channel, and following that, viewers were able to continue watching the full performance on Z-aN.

July 16th JST, 2026 also saw the release of ICHIBACHI! – BET from Tokyo to the World – a road movie-style documentary series that offers fans a never before seen look at the group and their recent North and Latin American tour, which took place in April and included 10 performances across 10 cities.
Beginning with the Los Angeles show, audiences travel with the group throughout their month-long overseas journey, getting a glimpse not only at their live performances, but also backstage moments, candid interactions between members, and the challenges they faced along the way.
The series presents a side of ONE OR EIGHT that audiences have never seen before, letting fans into their world in a new way. The series is broadcast and streamed in Japan on Nippon TV, Hulu, TVer, and NTV TADA. In addition, ONE OR EIGHT has announced ICHIKABACHIA! – Behind the 1st LIVE TOUR ‘GATHER’ – a weekly behind the scenes series set to premiere on the group’s YouTube channel that will also offer an exclusive look into the group’s first live tour.
The group has continued to gain momentum internationally following the success of their previous single, “TOKYO DRIFT.” The track generated more than 200,000 user-created posts on TikTok and surpassed 300 million total views across the platform. It also earned a place on the U.S. Mediabase Top 40 chart, making ONE OR EIGHT the Japanese boy group with the most appearances on the chart to date.
With anticipation building for EN-GÏNE and the group set to return to Japan for the final stop of their tour this summer, fans can now get their first taste of ONE OR EIGHT’s next chapter with “YANKEE SQUAT.”
