WARNING: SPOILERS FOR THE FROM SEASON 4 FINALE AHEAD!
FROM has once again left us with a jaw-dropping finale at the end of season four. With the devastating loss of two major characters, the stakes have never been higher as the series prepares to head into its fifth and final season.
Mama’s Geeky spoke with Nathan D. Simmons (Elgin) and Kaelen Ohm (Mari) about the shocking final moments for their characters in the Season 4 finale. The two stars broke down the intense process of filming their emotional death scenes, shared what it was like to get the fateful call that their time on the show was coming to an end, and teased what they will miss most about being part of the tight-knit FROM family.
Nathan D. Simmons & Kaelen Ohm Break Down Their Characters’ Deaths

Mama’s Geeky: I want to talk about filming your death scenes for both of you. What was that like?
Kaelen Ohm: It was intense. It was, Mariel’s death scene was super technical and there was many layers to it. You know, there’s the smiley moment and then the Fatima moment and then Christy. And so there was just trying to get it right on a technical level so that it was believable. And then obviously having it be emotional because she hangs on for Christy to come back.
And I stayed on the floor for four or five hours to shoot that. I didn’t get up because once we were in the pool of blood, it was like, I don’t want to have to step in and out of this. I’ll just stay. It’s my last moment here on the show and I can just absorb it all and soak it in. And that was moving enough in and of itself. So just kind of brought that to the experience as well.
Nathan D. Simmons: The experience for me was also incredible, right? I got, it was my last, like my death was the last thing I shot and it built all the way up to it. One part, I think the day before and then earlier that day, whatever. And then we just worked up to that big moment. And yeah, it was great. It’s like, I really gave up the character as my character gave up the ghost, right?
And I think taking off what Kaelen said, the feeling is like, you don’t always get this opportunity, you know, if you were to die in something. You know, not every death is so, I guess, justified and cathartic and macabre, if I can say, for both of us. And I think we, for me personally, I think I was just blessed that I got to go out on such an emotional and touching moment, right?

Mama’s Geeky: What was it like when you first read that you knew this was going to be your final season for both of you?
Kaelen Ohm: Well, we get two scripts at a time. We shoot, you know, for five months or so. And we get those scripts very soon, like sometimes days before we start shooting. So both of us wrote out most of the season until just about entering our last block. And then we got the call and they’re kind enough to tell us in person before the scripts come. So yeah, it was, you know, it’s a process. You find out and then you get the script and then you’re just kind of, for me personally, just in suddenly immediately getting to work because you’re like, I need to focus on how this is going to go.
Nathan D. Simmons: I can’t lie, I was shocked at first. And then when you tell me what the ins and outs about it was, you know, I got excited. But it’s also a mixture of like, you want to shoot this beautiful thing, but like you do know once you shoot, it’s like you’re not going to see your friends no more, right? It feels like everyone graduated, you got help back or like you graduated and people are still coming back to school right now. And so there’s that a section, but at the same time, it just feels good that hopefully I made a lasting impression on people and people will feel some sort of way about my character leaving.
