Billlie On Their New Album

Mama’s Geeky: Which track surprised you the most when recording it?
SHEON: One of our double title tracks, “ZAP,” surprised me the most when recording. I was really impressed by the contrast in the vocals, which maintains a dry, almost cynical tone throughout the verses and then shifts dramatically in the chorus. Watching our members perfectly pull off even the smallest details honestly surprised me. Through our first full-length album, I was excited that we were finally able to showcase Billlie’s sound in a more experimental way than ever before.
Mama’s Geeky: Is there a genre or vocal style that challenged any of you personally?
HARAM: I think one of our double title tracks, “WORK,” was a huge challenge for us as well. We tried to fill its cold, mechanical sound with our own liveliness and emotions, and we spent a lot of time studying how to balance the sharp rap parts with the more fluid vocal sections. I think those elements came out really well during the recording process.
Mama’s Geeky: If you had to choose one song from the new album that best represents your personality, which one would it be?
MOON SUA: I’d choose “WORK” that I participated in writing the lyrics for. Lines like “But you know what, señorita? I don’t care being myself” reflect my determination to stop being shaken by other people’s opinions and confidently walk my own path.
HARUNA: I think “SOUPASTA” represents me really well. There are moments when it feels difficult to choose just one answer, and in a world that constantly demands answers, I think the message that it’s okay to live according to your own preferences and standards is relatable.

Mama’s Geeky: So what was it about these two, “ZAP” and “WORK,” that made you decide to be dual lead tracks?
SUHYEON: I also think “ZAP” and “WORK” have completely different energies, but at the same time, they both capture the core message this album is trying to convey. That affected the decision on why they were chosen as double title tracks.
Mama’s Geeky: What message do you hope that fans take away from this album?
TSUKI: Just like the message in our title tracks, “ZAP” and “WORK,” we wanted to tell people not to be shaken by the way others see them and embrace both their weaknesses and flaws as parts of who they are. I think acknowledging and accepting those imperfect sides of ourselves is what ultimately makes us stronger.
Mama’s Geeky: Over the past few years, how would you say Billlie’s identity as a group has evolved and changed?
MOON SUA: As time has passed and we’ve continued to grow, I think Billlie’s identity has also evolved from uncertainty into certainty. Previously, we wandered through the subconscious while searching for answers, but now I think we’ve developed the strength to walk confidently into those cracks and protect ourselves.
Mama’s Geeky: Is there a performance or stage from this comeback that you’re most proud of?
HARUNA: The performance I’m most proud of was our comeback showcase stage, where we met our fans for the first time for this promotion. We worked so hard preparing for it, so finally being able to show that stage to our fans made me incredibly happy. While preparing for the comeback, I kept thinking about how badly I wanted to show everyone the performance, and hearing the fans cheering for us and completing the stage together with us was so thrilling.
Mama’s Geeky: If you could give your rookie debut selves one piece of advice, what would it be?
SUHYEON: Why am I getting emotional?
MOON SUA: I’d want to tell my younger self, “You’re doing well.” When you’re a rookie, everything feels uncertain, and you constantly wonder if you’re doing things right. But even while carrying those anxieties, I hope I could tell myself to trust and love myself more, and to believe that I’m doing just fine. You’re doing well!
Mama’s Geeky: Do you have a message for your fans?
MOON SUA: Billlie has finally returned with our first full-length album. We worked really hard preparing for it, and we’ll continue showing many different sides of ourselves in the future, so please continue to give us lots of love and support. Fighting!
