From Season 4 Review: Terrifying & Unpredictable

FROM Season 4 is a twisted, dark, and insane ride. With the Man in Yellow at the forefront, the horror steps up a notch, and it becomes truly unpredictable. This review is based solely on the first six episodes of FROM Season 4.

FROM season 4 review

Having spent the last few years obsessively theorizing about talismans, faraway trees, and the true nature of the monsters, I tuned into FROM Season 4 with incredibly high expectations. Honestly, this show has always excelled in atmospheric dread, but this season is crazy right from the start. If you thought the previous seasons were pushing the boundaries of psychological horror, you need to buckle up because the writers have officially taken the gloves off.

While the show has always been dark, things take an especially dark turn this time around. There is a palpable shift in the air from the very first episode. The stakes feel more intimate and, consequently, more devastating. While earlier seasons focused heavily on the external threat of the creatures, Season 4 turns the lens inward, exploring the total decay of the human spirit when hope is dangled just out of reach.

The central mystery surrounding the Man in Yellow finally steps to the forefront of the narrative. Without venturing into spoiler territory, I’ll just say that you will never be able to predict what happens here or where this trajectory leads. The lore expands in a way that feels both organic and utterly twisted. It is rare for a show to maintain this level of unpredictable, completely insane momentum four seasons in, but the creative team has managed to make the town feel even more claustrophobic and dangerous than ever before.

FROM has always been scary, but it really steps things up a notch this season. The horror isn’t just about jump scares and terrifying creatures anymore. Season 4 opens doors that some in town will end up wishing had remained closed, leading to some of the most visually and emotionally disturbing sequences in the series to date.

A horror show is only as good as the audience’s investment in the characters, and the cast continues to be the absolute strongest asset of the series. The chemistry among the veteran performers is off the charts, particularly as we watch the core group fracture under the pressure. Seeing Boyd’s physical and mental decline is gut-wrenching.

To no one’s surprise, Harold Perrineau plays that breaking point with such nuance that you can practically feel his exhaustion through the screen. He is an insanely talented actor, and he gets to prove that once again this season.

What really impressed me, though, was how the newcomers were handled. Often, bringing in new faces this late in a series can feel like a stalling tactic, but here, they fit into the world seamlessly. They bring fresh perspectives that challenge the established hierarchy of the town, specifically testing Boyd’s waning authority as his body and mind fall apart.

Ultimately, Season 4 of FROM is a triumph of the genre that rewards long-term viewers with answers while simultaneously weaving a more complex, terrifying web. It asks the hard questions about how much one soul can endure before it snaps and whether the home they are searching for is even worth the cost of getting there.

FROM Season 4 is a twisted, dark, and completely insane journey that proves the show is one of the best horror stories currently being told. Things get intense early on and never let up. This season is especially hard to talk about without getting into spoiler territory, as the reveals start ramping up from the first episode back. Just know that if you love this show, and these characters, you will be over the moon with what the writers and cast do this season.

About FROM Season 4

In Season Four, the closer the residents of town get to the answers they seek, the more terrifying their search becomes. Who is the Man in Yellow, and what does he want? Will Jade and Tabitha’s revelation be the key to finally going home? How much longer can Boyd hold the town together, even as his body and mind are falling apart? And what role will the town’s most recent arrival play in the events to come? Season Four will open doors that some in town will end up wishing had remained closed.

FROM Season 4 Premieres Sunday, April 19 at 9:00 pm ET/PT on MGM+.
