Executive Producer and Showrunner Tze Chun Executive Producer and Brendan Hay explain why Gremlins: Secrets of the Mogwai became Gremlins: The Wild Batch for season two.
Why Gremlins Animated Series Changed Title To The Wild Batch For Season 2
Tessa Smith: Why the name change for season 2?
Tze Chun: Season one, Gremlin: Secrets of the Mogwai, I think we gave up a lot of the secrets. So when we went into season two, really what it was, was we really want every season to feel like its own event and its own thing. So season one told the story of the meeting between Gizmo and the old Mr. Wing from the original movies when he was 10 years old. It really tells the story of the origin of the Mogwai, the Mogwai ancestral home, how they came to be and their adventure in China. Season two takes place in America, and tells the story of how the Wing family and Gizmo came to America. And so in thinking through that, we thought, well, Secrets of the Mogwai as the title doesn’t really fit in anymore. And also, how do we make this feel like it’s its own? If it was a movie, how is the sequel as big of an event as the first one?
Brendan Hay: And we get to do a little nod to the Gremlins theatrical sequel, which I’m looking for any chance to do.
