Moana 2 is the next Walt Disney Animation Studios film and is coming later this year, announces Disney Chief Executive Officer Bob Iger.
Disney fans have been on the edge of their seats waiting to hear what the next Walt Disney Animation Studios film is going to be, and now we have our answer. Moana 2 will be taking the 2024 Thanksgiving release slot.
Moana 2 Coming Later This Year, Bob Iger Announces
The Walt Disney Company Chief Executive Officer Bob Iger announced today that “Moana 2,” Disney Animation’s all-new feature-length sequel to 2016’s Oscar-nominated film, will be released in theaters in 2024. “Moana remains an incredibly popular franchise,” said Iger, “and we can’t wait to give you more of Moana and Maui when ‘Moana 2’ comes to theaters this November.”
A Moana Disney+ series was announced in 2020, and fans thought that she would be making her small screen debut some time in 2024. However, it seems that the story was so good, Walt Disney Animation Studios decided to pivot and turn it into a film, which is why we are now getting an animated Moana 2 theatrical release.
This is not to be confused with the live action remake of Moana, which is also starring Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson as the lovable God, Maui. Both Johnson and Auliʻi Cravalho will be reprising their roles as Maui and Moana, respectively, in the sequel.
If Moana 2 is well received, it can be expected that Disney will continue on with the live action versions as well, and possibly even filming the two movies back to back.
We can’t wait to see how far Moana will go, when the beloved character returns to the big screen November 27, 2024.
