Moon Knight episode 6 is an enjoyable addition to the season that wraps up a lot of things, however, it does feel a bit rushed. Warning, HUGE spoilers for the Moon Knight season 1 finale ahead.

WARNING: SPOILERS FOR MOON KNIGHT EPISODE 6
    “Gods and Monsters”

We start off this episode in what viewers have come to call “the real world”. The first half of the episode shows fans what happened here, while we were spending time with mark in the last episode. Throughout the series Layla has been great. Her becoming Taweret’s avatar in this episode was unexpected — but it actually works. In this episode Harrow also completes the mission he has been working so hard to complete all during season 1 — he frees Ammit. He does this inside of the Chamber of Gods, by smashing the statue she is stuck in.

Harrow has been a fantastic villain through the whole first season of Moon Knight. Thankfully there wasn’t a secret villain, like the Hawkeye series had. Ethan Hawke is a phenomenal talent and really shines in this show as the subtle, yet terrifying Harrow. The release of both Ammit and Khonshu in this episode led to an awesome fight in the pyramid.

As this was happening, viewers meet back up with Marc in the Field of Reeds where he is finally going to get the peace and quiet he has been waiting for. However, he makes the choice to go after Steven, and try to free him. Steven was always there to save Marc, and he knew it was time for him to return the favor. There wasn’t a 100% chance of this working, and Taweret made sure to explain that, but Steven took his chances and fans everywhere were thrilled when it worked out.

When Marc is able to confess his feelings to Steven, and let him know he has been his true superpower all along, there was likely not a dry eye in the house. This is a very emotional scene between Marc and Steven and feels full circle from where viewers first saw the broken relationship between these two. Later we get to see Moon Knight and Mr. Knight make a deal with Khonshu that they will be free after they defeat Harrow.

This leads us to the huge fight sequence between Khonshu and Ammit. They are massive beings, giving off serious kaiju vibes. Their fight takes place at the same time that Layla and Marc / Steven / Moon Knight / Mr. Knight battle it out with Harrow. This fight was absolutely spectacular because of the new balance between Mr. Knight and Moon Knight, and how they seamlessly transition back and forth.

The addition of Layla in her new costume with golden blade-like wings and dark red suit is absolutely phenomenal. The suit itself is the perfect combination of grounded and mystical.

Out of all the episodes, the CG is the best in this Moon Knight episode 6. It adds a lot to the episode, and makes viewers feel like they are really in the middle of it all. The switches between Mr. Knight and Moon Knight are so well done that it makes the action feel more fluid than the previous episodes. That being said, the action in this episode looks so good, that it takes away from the effect of previous episodes — making them feel like they were not up to par.

The ending is where this episode veers off the path, and might feel rushed and confusing to some viewers. During the fight, Moon Knight is about to lose. He then blacks out, only to awake and see everyone around him is dead. This was a really cool tie back to when this happens in the first episode as we switch between Marc and Steven. This time, however, it is not Steven, and it is not Marc. The two trust each other now, so there is no reason for them to lie to each other when they say they are not the ones to do it.

Earlier in the season, there was another moment where they both said it was not them who killed their opponents in the fight. Now that we have seen the end credit scene (more on that later), we know this must be the third, more brutal, pesona — Jake Lockley. Even Layla recognizes that this person was not Marc or Steven, asking Marc what happened.

But there is no time to dwell on this, as they must take Harrow’s body to the Chamber of the Gods and bind it to Ammit. This is the only way to stop her. After they do that, Khonchu tells Marc to kill Harrow and he almost does, but then he finally puts his foot down and says no. He tells Khonchu to do it himself if he wants to, and that they made a deal — now is the time to free both Marc and Steven from his power. Khonchu reluctantly agrees, and the suit leaves Marc / Steven.

What happens next brings the entire show together in a circle — and leaves us begging for more to come in season 2. As soon as Khonchu leaves them, Marc and Steven are seen in the asylum, talking to Dr. Harrow. Marc and Steven can now go back and forth, willingly, as they are balanced and no longer fighting each other. Harrow almost convinces them that they are in the real reality, but then they notice him bleeding — indicating that they are in control.

Finally, we see them back in Steven’s flat, back in the true reality. Marvel throws in a little joke as they get up out of bed, they fall over because his ankle is still strapped to it. This is where the episode ends, however there is a post credit scene.

In the post credit scene Harrow in a hospital only to be wheeled out by a mysterious figure. He is then thrown into a limo and sitting across from him is a very sharply dressed Khonchu. Harrow laughs, telling him that he can do nothing to him without an avatar. Khonchu says that Marc was always so worried Khonchu was going to take over Layla as his avatar, but he didn’t realize just how fractured and broken his mind is. The limo window rolls down, and Khonchu introduces his “friend”, Jake Lockley. Jake speaks Spanish, and then pulls out a gun, shooting Harrow. This comes off very easy for him, as he is clearly the most brutal of the personas.

This is a great tease for the second season of the show, which Marvel confirmed on twitter earlier this week. While there are some changes that were made from the comic books, that often happens with the MCU. Just a few of these changes are that Jake is a Latino in the show, he drives a limo rather than a cab, and that he is possibly rich. Hopefully these will not effect his character too much, but we will all find out when season 2 eventually hits Disney+.
