DON’T MISS: Star Trek: Picard Season 1 Recap & Season 2 Theories
When we last saw Admiral Jean Luc Picard and the crew of La Sirena, they had said goodbye to Data forever, and the synthetic ban was lifted, allowing Soji and Picard in his new synth body, to travel freely.
Now, a year has passed, and Picard is back at his vineyard, Chateau Picard, living his life and relaxing after an adventurous few months. His relationship with Romulan Laris is still up in the air, as we see that the two deeply care for each other.
Right away, we are introduced to the main problem of the season, there is a mysterious anomaly in space, and the signal detected is asking for Picard. Does this anomaly have something to do with the Borg? Q? Or something new entirely?
This causes the team, who during the past year have been up to vastly different things. Elnor is enrolled at Starfleet, where Raffi has also been reinstated. Seven of Nine is now captain of La Sirena after Cristóbal Ríos was promoted to captain of his own Starfleet ship, the USS Stargazer, where Agnes is also working as a science officer, it is also revealed that they have ended their relationship.
Finally, Soji is traveling all over space as an emissary and living her life, after finally gaining freedom. After detecting the anomaly, Picard is brought to the Stargazer, making it the first time Picard sets foot on a Federation ship since Star Trek Nemesis. It was a very emotional moment, as Picard finally got his “Admiral on the Bridge” moment, even I stood up as he walked into the bridge.
Cristóbal detected the anomaly and has Picard come on board to hear the message from this anomaly. There turns out to be a massive Borg ship, and the Borg board the
Stargazer in an epic moment. However, it is the year 2022, or 2399 in Star Tre: Picard, surely they should know by now that regular phasers don’t work against the Borg. The shootout scene was frustrating to watch.
Due to the Borg controlling the entire fleet, Picard sees no choice but to order self destruction. Cristóbal is frustrated, since he would be losing another ship. The self destruction is activated, just as Q makes his grand appearance. The episode ends with Picard waking up in an unfamiliar, but familiar place.
So what is going on? Did all of these beloved characters die and are now in purgatory? Or did Q get them out right before and throw them into one of his little games? Overall, a pretty strong start to this episode.
Another highlight of the episode has to be Guinan’s grand return, as she bestows her wisdom upon Picard once more. It was weird seeing this interaction happening on Earth, when we are so used to seeing them interact onboard the Enterprise. Her return had been confirmed by Whoopi Goldberg last year, and it was a very exciting moment for fans to see her again. Who else will we see return this season?
