SpongeBob SquarePants Presents The Tidal Zone Cast Interview
SpongeBob SquarePants Presents The Tidal Zone marks the first time that SpongeBob SquarePants, The Patrick Star Show, and Kamp Koral: SpongeBob’s Under Years join forces for an epic crossover event — and fans will be begging for more like this as soon as they see it.
Mama’s Geeky sat down with Bill Fagerbakke (Patrick Star), Jill Talley (Squidina Star), Dana Snyder (GrandPat), Tom Kenny (SpongeBob SquarePants), and Clancy Brown (Mr. Krabs) to talk all about this unprecedented event, and how they felt about it when they were first pitched the idea.
Spoiler alert, they all loved it — even if it confused them a little bit. You see, they didn’t record the script from start to finish. Jill Talley admits that it was pretty crazy. “We record on different days of the week. So it’s like, oh, today I’m recording a little bit of Patrick Star. And then the next day [another series].”
Bill Fagerbakke adds, “Then you throw in the ADR and everything. No, it was a sprawling epic of production, there’s no way we could all focus. And then you put into play the the Zoom stuff. And it’s just all a big mess. And whoever figures it out, bless them.”
Tom Kenny admits that he immediately loved the idea of a crossover. “I always love seeing what these guys are gonna do and the storyboards are always fun to look at. What you see on the screen is what we’re getting in the storyboard. The fun graphics and crazy drawings and funny jokes and weirdness upon weirdness upon weirdness. They were trying to think of a way, for a while, for the three series to coexist in for a night and mash up, and they hit on this anthology — Twilight Zone, Night Gallery, Outer Limits — kind of thing, and it turned out to be perfect. A great idea.”
Clancy Brown laughs as he says his first reaction was “You gotta be kidding me. It’s never gonna work.” He jokes that he gave a big eye roll, like here we go. We are actually doing this.
What About SpongeBob Has This World Still resonating With People
SpongeBob has generations of fans, so what about it has kept them coming back after all these years? Talley says that it is always funny, and kind. “It’s a show that doesn’t hit you over the head. It’s not afraid to just be a funny, sweet show.”
Fagerbakke adds in that it is “An incredibly challenging idea of the use of cleverness and innocence at the same time. And be funny within that. That’s a hard line to walk. Especially when you’re chasing jokes, right?”
I just think it’s a the characters have so much heart SpongeBob I mean, it’s the optimist. It’s, there’s, there’s, this is a beautiful place in the world for someone who’s just positive and optimistic. And everybody, I think that’s why they love them so much. Everybody sees a little bit of themselves, and all the characters on there, or they know people like that, but it’s just all comes from a place of love. And it’s funny.
Dana Snyder throws in his two cents, saying “I just think it’s that the characters have so much heart. SpongeBob is the optimist. There’s a beautiful place in the world for someone who’s just positive and optimistic. Everybody sees a little bit of themselves, in all the characters on there, or they know people like that, but it all comes from a place of love. And it’s funny.”

SpongeBob SquarePants Presents The Tidal Zone Review
SpongeBob SquarePants Presents The Tidal Zone is exactly what you would expect from a SpongeBob series crossover event. It is hilarious, fun, quirky, and well, pretty bonkers (in a really good way). There are three different stories, each episode being its own, however they connect to create one cohesive plot.
Fans of The Twilight Zone and SpongeBob will be thrilled at how these two worlds collide. It really channels The Twilight Zone in a way that makes perfect sense in SpongeBob’s world. Each of the stories are unique. They bring something new to this world that has been around for literal decades — which is hard to do. These characters have always embraced the weird, yet they somehow take it a step further with SpongeBob SquarePants Presents The Tidal Zone!
A crossover like this has never been done before in the SpongeBob world because it would never really make sense, with the different ages of the characters in the different series. Spinning it like this was a brilliant move by the creators and we have our fingers crossed that we will get even more The Tidal Zone events in the future! The possibilities are now endless!
