Chucky is a well known murderous doll, but he has some serious competition now thanks to M3gan. She is an AI doll and she came to play in her new film. This movie is not messing around in delivering a whole lot of creepy vibes, some brutally fun kills, and even a fair amount of laughs.
The story itself is nothing groundbreaking. A young girl named Cady loses her parents in an accident and is sent to live with her Aunt Gemma, who happens to be working on an AI doll that pairs with kids to become their lifelong friend.
When M3gan starts to learn, as she is programmed to do, she becomes too smart for her own good and will soon stop at nothing to achieve her primary objective — keep Cady safe, no matter the cost.
M3gan might be classified as a horror film, but it is rated PG-13 and it never crosses that line. While the doll is certainly creepy, she also delivers a lot of humorous moments. There are even times where she randomly starts singing and/or dancing.
The overall message of the movie is a simple one, us humans rely way too much on our devices. Not just for ourselves, but to help to parent our children as well. There are many discussions about screen time throughout the film, as well as talks about not being present as a parent.
This movie is a wild and fun ride, with a great blend of humor and horror. It doesn’t ever cross a line, which allows the young teen crowd to get in on the fun too.
