A touching film that will inspire kids everywhere to be themselves!"
– Mama's Geeky
Kids around the world are going to be inspired to be themselves after watching Better Nate Than Ever, and that is largely in part to the incredible stars of the film. It stars newcomer Rueby Wood, who absolutely shines in this film.
Nate is completely unafraid to be himself, even though he embarrasses his older brother, Anthony (Joshua Bassett). He takes off to NYC with his best friend Libby (Aria Brooks) to try out for a musical.
The story beats don't really give us anything new, and at times it feels like several movies we have seen before, with an important, but overdone message. It is the performances here that make this movie stand above the rest.
The biggest issue is that Nate is very clearly gay, but they never say the words. They dance around the subject by saying things like "different" and "not like that."
This film is truly something special. With a great cast, who all work well together, and a lot of fun adventures, this adorable movie is sure to help kids realize that they too can shine, if they just embrace who they are.
