Nobody 2 Review: An Action-Packed Adrenaline Rush

Nobody 2 is a fast-paced action movie that will send viewers on a wild ride, but it still finds the time to deliver heart and a message about the importance of family.

(from left) Brady Mansell (Gage Munroe), Sammy Mansell (Paisley Cadorath), Hutch Mansell (Bob Odenkirk), David Mansell (Christopher Lloyd) and Becca Mansell (Connie Nielsen) in Nobody 2, directed by Timo Tjahjanto.

Hutch Mansell (Bob Odenkirk) is back in Nobody 2, and all he wants is a nice, quiet, family vacation. After the events of Nobody, he is working hard to pay off his debts. When he finally is able to take some time off, he finds himself almost instantly wrapped up in something he does not want to be a part of. It seems that trouble always finds him.

Nobody 2 is a fast-paced, wild ride, but it also manages to deliver some hard-hitting messages about the importance of family and what it means to protect the ones you love, but not at the expense of missing out on time with them. This is very relatable for any working parent, and meant a lot for me to see on the big screen.

Nobody 2 Is Grown Up Home Alone, And It’s Awesome

Bob Odenkirk as Hutch Mansell in Nobody 2, directed by Timo Tjahjanto.

Not only is it amazing to see Bob Odenkirk back to kicking butt as an action star, but it is a lot of fun to see him laying traps for the bad guys. The final act of this movie feels like Home Alone if Kevin was all grown up and taking on some seriously awful people.

When speaking with director Tim Tjahjanto he said this is something he was going for, and he pulled it off, creating one of the best action sequences I have seen in a while. It really feels like John Wick meets Home Alone.

Nobody 2 Features Stellar Acting By The Newcomers To The Franchise

A good action movie works best when the audience despises the villains. We need to want to see them get what they have coming. This is something that Nobody 2 pulls off brilliantly, largely in part because of the acting (and a great script).

Without getting into too much detail, Colin Hanks plays an annoying sheriff who abuses his power to the fullest. The town that Hutch and his family are vacationing in has some deep ties to some really bad people, as seen in the trailer, and he is all in on helping them out – no matter the cost. He is full of himself and thinks he is untouchable, so his scenes opposite Bob Odenkirk are phenomenal.

But he is not the only villain of the story. Sharon Stone’s character is cold and calculated. I have never seen her in a role like this before, and I can honestly say that I would not be mad if she continued to take ones like this. She is incredible. She is scary. And she is one of my favorite parts of the movie.

The Action Sequences Are Bigger & More Explosive

While revenge was Hutch’s motivation in Nobody, this time around, he wants to protect his family. But it is also clear that he wants to protect any innocents in the town that have been affected by the shady dealings going on. This leads to a lot of killing and a ton of bloody action sequences that will have viewers wincing with glee.

They upped the ante this time around, in the best way possible. Things are bigger and more explosive, but that doesn’t take away from the grounded action of the first film. Both are great in their own way. One of the best things about Nobody 2 is getting to see more of the family dynamic and learning just how much they mean to one another, even if they don’t always want to admit it.

Nobody 2 comes to theaters on August 15th, and trust me when I saw, you want to see it on the biggest screen possible.
