Severance season 2 continues the thrilling storytelling with more surprises, twists, and turns. We get answers but are also left with more questions.
The first season of Severance left off on a massive cliffhanger after the Innies found their way into the “real world”. This, of course, has serious ramifications that come to a head in Severance season 2. The best part about this is that I honestly had no idea where things were going which made for a thrilling and exciting viewing exprience.
Over the course of the ten-episode season things get dark – extremely dark – taking unexpected twists and turns around nearly every corner. Season one set the bar high and somehow season two is right up there with it. This season might not be better than the first, but it is certainly on par with it.
The reason this show works as well as it does is because of the incredibly talented actors that star in it. Because of the nature of the story, they are essentially playing two versions of the same character, which can be difficult to pull off. Sure, the Innies and Outies know about each other, but they have their own personality quirks and are, essentially, two different people – a topic that comes up a lot in Severance season two.
There are only a handful of new characters in season two, with the focus, rightfully so, being on Mark (Adam Scott), Dylan (Zach Cherry), Helly (Britt Lower), and Irving (John Turturro). They are all going through a lot after being thrust into the outside world in season one, each dealing with personal struggles.
Every story line is interesting and while Mark’s hunt for his wife and his relationship with Helly is at the forefront of the story, it never feels more important than the journeys the others are going through. The perfect blend of these adds layers to the series. Especially as they start to cross over with one another. Brilliant writing. Brilliant acting. Brilliant storytelling. All around.
Everything that happens in Severance season 2 culminates into an epic finale that not only will have viewers on the edge of their seats, their hearts will be pounding as they wonder how it is all going to play out. For obvious reasons I cannot get into details but the slow burn of certain moments throughout the season all pay off in a way that had my jaw on the floor.
I cannot wait to see what Severance season 3 brings, I just hope the wait is not excrutatingly long.
