Twisters is an epic disaster film that is the definition of a summer blockbuster – massive action sequences and two leads that ooze chemistry.

Right from the opening sequence of Twisters it is clear this disaster movie is not holding back. This film showcases the raw power of natural disasters such as tornadoes, and the utter devestation that is left in its path. While the plot is simplistic, Glen Powell (Tyler) and Daisy Edgar-Jones (Kate) are a joy to watch together. Twisters was made for the biggest screen possible, so we highly recommend checking it out in IMAX. And, if you are feeling brave enough, 4DX will put you right in the middle of the storm.
Twisters is what you call a standalone sequel. It has almost no tie to the original film, except for a mention of Dorothy (the new systems are the Tinman, Scarecrow, and Lion because… of course they are). There is no need to have watched the first movie in order to understand what is happening, although we recommend it because it is a classic, and no previous cast makes a cameo.
This movie follows Kate as she is ushered back into the world of tornado chasing after a tragedy pushed her away from it. Just as Helen Hunt’s character in Twister, she wants to use Science to understand these storms. However, this time around she thinks she knows how to stop them in their tracks.
Glen Powell is by far the best part of this movie. He plays the role of Tyler the tornado wrangler well. A bit of a brute, with a strong love of adventure, but he has a heart when you dig deep enough. He is instantly taken by Kate when he meets her, even though the two start off with some friendly competition.
Their will they or won’t they dynamic is captivating, and while it makes for a pretty predictable plot point, it is still a blast to watch. Twisters is packed with edge-of-your-seat action sequences, that will have audiences holding on for dear life. Throwing in that killer soundtrack only heightens the excitement. As for the VFX, it is quite impressive.
Twisters does not gloss over the destruction that is left behind when a tornado passes through a town. It takes the time to focus on the effect natural disasters have on the people with some scenes that are emotional, and even tough to watch. They add a lot of heart to the film, which balance out the heart-pounding moments that we get mid-storm.
Overall Thoughts
Twisters is the absolute definition of a summer blockbuster. It is big, it is action packed, it is funny, and it has two leads that ooze chemistry. This movie is fun, which is exactly what audiences will be expecting to see. Glen Powell once again proves the star power he has.
See Twisters on the biggest screen possible, you won’t regret it.

About Twisters
This summer, the epic studio disaster movie returns with an adrenaline-pumping, big-screen thrill ride that puts you in direct contact with one of nature’s most wondrous—and destructive—forces.
From the producers of the Jurassic, Bourne and Indiana Jones series comes Twisters, a current-day chapter of the 1996 blockbuster, Twister. Directed by Lee Isaac Chung, the Oscar® nominated writer-director of Minari, Twisters stars Daisy Edgar-Jones (Where the Crawdads Sing), Glen Powell (Top Gun: Maverick) and Anthony Ramos (Transformers: Rise of the Beasts) as equal forces, with opposing motivations, who come together to try to predict, and possibly tame, the immense power of tornadoes.
Edgar-Jones stars as Kate Carter, a former storm chaser haunted by a devastating encounter with a tornado during her college years who now studies storm patterns on screens safely in New York City. She is lured back to the open plains by her friend, Javi (Ramos) to test a groundbreaking new tracking system. There, she crosses paths with Tyler Owens (Powell), the charming and reckless social-media superstar who thrives on posting his storm-chasing adventures with his raucous crew, the more dangerous the better.
As storm season intensifies, terrifying phenomena never seen before are unleashed, and Kate, Tyler, Javi and their crews find themselves squarely in the paths of multiple storm systems converging over central Oklahoma in the fight of their lives.
