Solar Opposites Season 3 Review: Embracing The Wall

Solar Opposites Season 3 gives fans more of the humor that they know and love while fully embracing the story of the wall.

Solar Opposites season 3 review

Everyone’s favorite aliens are back with Solar Opposites season 3. Created by the same brilliant minds behind Rick and Morty, this is another adult comedy that pushes things to the very limit, and even crosses a line every now and then. In season 3 the Opposites find themselves once again trapped on Earth and trying to fit in with those around them. They don’t hide the fact that they are aliens, but they do try to live as humans do sometimes. With each episode in this season getting more and more crazy, there is a whole lot to love as it is easy to once again become invested in their lives.

The fan favorite storyline revolving around the wall, where Jessie and Yumulak keep the shrunk down humans from the first season, gets a whole lot more screen time in Season 3. It is clear that the writers have learned just how much viewers enjoy these secondary characters. Because of this nearly every episode in Solar Opposites season 3 spends some time in the wall addressing the aftermath of the flooding and Tim’s betrayal.

As the actors settle into their characters, the series just gets better and better. There is a whole lot to love as the humor pushes the envelop as far as it can without completely alienating the audience. It takes things from real life, such as waiting in line for the newest products, and creates entire episodes around them. Hilarious, ridiculous, episodes.

Solar Opposites season 3 is comprised of twelve episodes, each of which is about thirty minutes long. The pacing is on par with previous seasons, allowing episodes to fly by as viewers laugh their way through them. While there are episodes that could be considered standalone, this season very clearly follows a cohesive timeline, with a beginning and end. Knowing that there is another season around the corner does take away from any so-called stakes that this season might have, however it is still a very enjoyable season.

While the humor just gets better and better as the seasons go on, the standout of season 3 is the major inclusion of the wall stories. In the past it would get its own episode or two, and make short appearances here and there, but it has become so much more than that. If you were to add up on screen time, it is likely that the wall characters appear in about one third of season 3.

Every member of the Opposites family has their own quirks and their own issues. They all have traits that make them relatable to certain viewers and that doesn’t change this season. The actors have gotten to know them over time and because of this they know how they would act in certain situations – the same goes for the writers of the show. That is why this season ends up being the best yet.

There really are no filler episodes or ones that drag the season down. At the same time, considering that there aren’t many new characters, and they are still in the same location, each episode brings a freshness to the series as well. Nothing feels repetitive, which says a lot when we are this far into a series.

Solar Opposites season 3 is sure to make long time fans extremely happy as it continues to surprise. It is unafraid to push the bar well past where many other animated series stop, making it fun and unique. The pupa once again steals the show at times, while still allowing every character to have their moment to shine. Plus, those fans who are most interested in the wall will be thrilled with all the time that plot point is explored this season.

Solar Opposites streams on Hulu July 13th.
