In The Boys season 3, Starlight is forced to grin and bare it quite a bit. In an exclusive interview, Erin Moriarty discusses how this makes her feel.

Starlight has always been forced to hold back her emotions for the most part, and in The Boys season 3 this is taken to a whole new level. It might seem like she is shattering that glass ceiling with her promotion to co-captain, but she still has to put up with Homelander and his scare tactics. In episode three of this season, she even has to fake a relationship with Homelander, someone she despises with all of her being.
When asked about how she felt reading The Boys season 3 script for the first time, and seeing what her character was going through, Erin Moriarty agrees that she is being forced to grin and bare it, but also says this allows her to grow this season.
“One of the immediate plot points that I read about was her becoming co-captain and I thought that was going to be really interesting. Like you said, there’s a lot of grinning in terms of the façade that she’s putting on. It’s weighing on her. When she’s given the role of co-captain she sees it as her final opportunity to properly impart change. She soon realizes that increase in power just increases the threat of Homelander on her and on Hughie. So she has to decide whether she’s willing to withstand that or not. And whether withstanding that is going to be worth it.” – Erin Moriarty

When we are first introduced to Starlight in season one, and when she is chosen for The Seven, she has a harsh, abrupt reality of the world that she has just joined. She always idolized this world and so when she finds out that it is the opposite of what she’s believed, she has to adapt very quickly and choose whether or not she wants to participate in it.
“It takes a long time to really integrate that you’ve spent your whole life believing one thing, and then you find out that pretty much everything has been a lie — even her relationship with her mother and her relationship with her superpowers. This is the season where she finally decides what her place in this world is going to be. And with that comes a confidence in her that we’ve not seen before, and also a clarity. It was really satisfying to play because I feel like she’s been inching towards that trajectory and we hit it this season.” – Erin Moriarty
Moriarty continues that she is excited to see how this version of Starlight continues to play out in The Boys season 4. “It was super satisfying and really fun for me, because the really confident side of her is a new flavor that I got to play around with.”
Watch Starlight’s growth over the course of The Boys season 3 as it airs weekly on Prime Video, leading up to one epic finale on July 8th.

About The Boys Season 3
It’s been a year of calm. Homelander’s subdued. Butcher works for the government, supervised by Hughie of all people. But both men itch to turn this peace and quiet into blood and bone. The Boys is a fun and irreverent take on what happens when superheroes—who are as popular as celebrities, as influential as politicians, and as revered as gods—abuse their superpowers rather than use them for good. It’s the seemingly powerless against the super powerful.
