The Craft: Legacy exudes nostalgia but is more of a coming of age story than anything else. Just OK but seems to sets up something bigger.

Yes, The Craft: Legacy brings all sorts of nostalgia – especially when they threw in that Alanis Morsette song. But is it worth watching?! I give it a big fat MEH. It tries too hard to be as iconic as the original, which it will never be. And although it down bring in some new modern ideas (like someone coming out), it is too predictable and feels very rushed. The ending is the only thing that gives it hope. Maybe we will get another one that will make up for this?
Unfortunately this movie is so rushed that I never have time to really connect to any of the characters. If you asked me to name them off the top of my head, there is no way I would be able to tell you anyone besides Lily and Frankie. This movie starts with Lily and her mom moving in with her mother’s boyfriend, who has three sons.
When Lily goes to her new school, the other three witches are already an established coven. Lily joins them very quickly and they immediately go into a montage of using their powers for things like glittery makeup. Since Timmy has been a bit of a bully they decide to put a spell on him. He suddenly becomes “woke Timmy” and has completely changed for the better.
He is friends with Lily’s stepbrothers and we soon find out why he was likely a bully. This was the one twist in the whole movie that I did not see coming and while I enjoyed it, it just wasn’t enough to make this movie worth watching again.
I don’t want to give major spoilers but I will say that the villain was obvious to me, as well as the big reveal at the ending. A lot of that is in part to the trailer, so if you haven’t watched it yet, you might enjoy The Craft: Legacy more than I did.
Overall Thoughts
The nostalgia from the original The Craft comes and goes throughout the movie, although this one feels like much more of a coming of age story than a horror/thriller story. We don’t get as many epic magic battles as I would have liked, and I didn’t care about most of the characters. This one is a right down the middle for me. It is not really worth watching, but it is only an hour and a half long, which is sure to fly by because of how rushed it is.
The Craft: Legacy fails to bring any character development and simply put, feels too rushed and fake. It truly feels like a set up for another movie that will get more in depth of Lily, her friends, and their powers. If there is a third The Craft, I imagine that it will fall somewhere between the two. There really is no getting better than the original!
