While looking in our pantry and wondering what we could make without having to go to the store, my husband and I got a brilliant idea! Our kids had never had Sloppy Joes before (I know, we are horrible parents), and that sounded delicious!

We looked up several recipes and discovering there was always something to sweeten the meat, like brown sugar or molasses. Well guess what? Those were two things we actually didn’t have. So what were we to do? Then we spotted the maple syrup and our new favorite Sloppy Joe recipe was born!

Sloppy Joe Recipe Ingredients

I can all but guarantee that you will have all of things in your home already. Either in your pantry or your refrigerator.

  • 1.5 lbs ground beef
  • 2 tablespoons mustard
  • 2 tablespoons ketchup
  • 1 tablespoon soy sauce
  • 2 tablespoons balsamic vinegar
  • 2 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce
  • 3 oz tomato paste
  • 2 teaspoons onion powder

  • 2 teaspoons garlic powder
  • 2 tablespoons maple syrup
  • Salt to taste
  • Pepper to taste
  • shredded cheese
  • 8 hamburger buns

Sloppy Joe Recipe Directions

First brown and drain the ground beef.

Then mix in tomato paste, tomato sauce, mustard, ketchup, soy sauce, balsamic vinegar, maple syrup, and Worcestershire sauce.

Stir well before adding the spices — onion powder, garlic powder, salt and pepper.

Put as much Sloppy Joe meat on your bun as humanly possible — it isn’t called sloppy for nothing!
