Choosing to end a series has to be a hard decision for the writers and producers. The creators of FX’s Legion have opted to pull the plug on their own after Season 3 (and yes, I am a little salty about it). Knowing this will be Legion’s final season, must put a lot of pressure on them. If they think they can end the story perfectly, then let’s see them do it. They sure are off to a good start.
I have said it before, and I will say it again – Legion is one of my all time favorite Marvel Comic Book characters. He is an insanely powerful mutant. Perhaps the most powerful. His father is Charles Xavier after all. Dan Stevens was clearly the perfect choice to play him. Which kind of blows my mind. That man is TALENTED.
Legion’s final season, season 3, has started off strong. I am sad to see it ending – but REALLY excited to see where this goes…

Bringing in a Time Traveler
Switch is a new character in Legion – and the entire first episode is based around her. She is a time traveler, something that David is actively seeking out. But we have no clue why. You can assume it has something to do with wanting Syd back, although he denies this right to Switch’s face.
Perhaps he wants to go back to when he was a baby and stop the Shadow King from ever entering his mind. He did, after all, ask her just how far back she can go. Either way, I love the addition of a new character – although I am sad to get attached to someone else I will lose when this series ends.
Keeping the Shadow King a Major Part
One of the best parts of this show, is David’s battle against the Shadow King, Amahl Farouk. The two of them have insane power – and seeing them use it against each other is satisfying, in a weird way. Their battle on the astro plane from last season remains one of my favorite television show scenes EVER. And I don’t think it will ever be topped.
I was worried that Amahl would take a back seat in this season, but those fears were laid to rest when he disrupted one of Switch’s travels back in time to confront her. It seems like he will be a major part of this final season – and I am all about that.
David’s Father
As I mentioned above (and as any Marvel comic reader should know), David’s father is Professor Charles Xavier. I sure hope that name sounds familiar, because it should. He runs the Xavier/s School for Gifted Youngsters – you know, the X-Men.
They have hinted at him before in this show – showing a wheelchair, the X symbol. But David mentioned him a few more times in this season 3 premiere, and it has me hoping he will show up. According the trailers he will too – but who can fully trust a Marvel trailer at this point? Not me.
Overall Thoughts
There is so much awesome going on in this season premiere, that I am overly hyped for the final season. I was nervous going in to it. And I hate that it is ending (and that I know it is ending). But I cannot wait to take the journey with all these characters I know and love.
We know a few new things, although I suppose it can all be changed if Switch travels far back enough. David is leading a cult of hippies – and he is drugging them with a blue flower (that makes an adorable squeaking sound when they squeeze it). They are doing this willingly – but it seems like he has helped them in exchange for them to stay with him.
Clearly he is missing Syd. But she is after revenge with him. In fact, we have seen her shoot – and kill – him twice. Thanks to Switch that never happened, but we saw it. She is steaming mad at him still. The whole team is ready and willing to track him down.
If you have not yet watched Legion, you are TRULY missing out. The cinematography alone makes it worth a watch. The episodes are easily bingable, so you have time to watch the first two seasons before Legion’s final season finale sneaks up on us.
