We love going to the Great New York State Fair every year. It is something that our family looks forward to all year long. We usually go at least one or two days – and have so much fun! This year, the fairgrounds had been improved and WOW – the place looks great! I just love the main gates now – gorgeous! If you follow me on Snapchat or Instagram, I am sure you saw my stories as I was there this past weekend. Planning a trip to the fair for the first time can be overwhelming. Even if you have been, you can easily miss some great stuff because there is so much to see and do. No matter what you check out, you are sure to have a blast, but here are my 3 things that I don’t think anyone should skip. They are fun for the whole family and things that we come back to year after year.

Since we moved to upstate New York 3 years ago, it has been tradition to go to the Great New York State Fair. We have been three years in a row and this year will mark our fourth. My family knows that it will be a good time, and my young daughters look forward to it. Check out my kid friendly favorites and my guide to the NYSF food if you are heading there this year. This year, the Great New York State Fair is joining forces with Paw Patrol! When I saw this, I just knew my daughters would flip out – they love that show!
Recently I took my whole family to Hersheypark for a weekend. We live in Upstate New York so it is not that long a drive (about 5 hours) and we were all really excited to go! My husband grew up in New York and so he had been there with his family when he was younger but not recently. Myself and our young daughters had never been – but had heard great things. We spent our entire Saturday in the park and had more fun than we ever imagined.

Darien Lake’s wide variety of entertainment has made it “destination fun” since 1964. Located 45 minutes from Niagara Falls between Buffalo and Rochester, N.Y., today the park boasts more than 50 rides, including six world-class roller coasters; dozens of family-friendly rides; the region’s largest water park complete with wave pool; a 20,000-seat performing arts center, operated by Live Nation; and world-class in-park entertainment.
You may not know this about me, but I am a huge country music fan. In college and immediately after graduating I worked at a couple of different radio stations on the promotions team. It was always a good time and I loved being able to see the other side of artists that you don’t see on stage. One of my favorite people to meet was Brad Paisley. He was a total sweetheart and down to Earth. Just a normal guy. He has always been one of my favorite artists because I think he is incredibly talented. When I met my husband he really didn’t know much about Brad, but I played his music for him and then took him to a concert. Now, he isn’t a huge country fan, but he still says Brad Paisley is one of the best concerts he has ever been to. If you don’t know who he is (you must live under a rock) look him up and go check him out. He is currently touring (Crushin’ It World Tour) and he has lots of dates coming up in 2016. Read on about why Brad puts on the best concert you will ever see – and then check out his upcoming tour dates here – you will thank me!
Unsure what to do with your time now that the holiday season has passed? Symphoria, the professional symphony orchestra in Central New York, is embarking on the second half of its season with 15 more exciting concerts complete with music from Broadway stars, classic Disney films and the the epic Star Wars movies. If you know me and my love for all things Disney and Star Wars, you should know that I will be in attendance at both of those shows – and I cannot wait! My husband and I, along with some friends, attended the Cirque de la Symphonie show a couple of months ago and it was incredible. Whenever we get together with them, we still talk about it! (You can read more about that performance here.) I am also planning on attending the Wicked Divas show, and will be sure to let you guys know all about it!
All roads lead straight to Wrestlemania 32 with WWE LIVE ROAD TO WRESTLEMNIA making one of its final stops at War Memorial Arena in March. Anything can happen with Wrestlemania just two weeks away! WWE fans are in for one crazy night as rivalries and tempers collide.
We have taken the girls to several Disney on Ice shows before – and I grew up going to them every year – but nothing compares to the one that we saw last night – Dare to Dream. I have a sore throat this morning from screaming and cheering so much. I must admit, after seeing Frozen on Ice last year, I did not know how Feld Entertainment could top themselves, Frozen on Ice is an amazing show. But wow – the air performances in the Tangled part of the Dare to Dream show were just incredible. Flynn and Rapunzel are two wildly talented ice skaters, and I really enjoyed watching them. My husband, who is rarely impressed by the ice skating skills of these actors, kept nodding his head and clapping as they performed their tricks. When I saw “Rapunzel’s hair” come down, I thought they would do one or two aerial tricks but they just kept coming – and each one was more impressive than the last.
The local community is encouraged to bring non-perishable item donations to any Syracuse Crunch Home Game throughout the month of December. Donations can also be made at the Solvay Bank Box Office at The Oncenter (760 S. State Street) during normal business hours (M-F 10am-6pm; Sat. 9am-1pm). I know I will be donating! My family always tries to donate food as well as gifts for the less fortunate around the holiday season (and throughout the year). The Oncenter has brilliantly put a fun twist on this food drive, making it worth it for us to drive about a half an hour to donate.
