Why My Mother/Daughter Bond Is So Strong With Both My Girls

There is no bond quite like the one between mother and child. The moment I birthed my children, I knew that. But did I know that the whole time I was pregnant? Nope. I was terrified – I mean, TERRIFIED – that I would not love my children the way so many mothers do. I was afraid that I would not know how to take care of them, and I was afraid that I would be a bad mom.

The Birth Of My First Daughter

My husband and I decided to wait until birth to find out if we were having a boy or a girl. Surprisingly, it was actually quite easy and I wasn’t tempted to find out. My family and friends on the other, hated our decision. We speculated and researched old wive’s tales for fun, and were thrilled to discover we had a daughter. Immediately I thought of all the girly things we could do together. Get dressed up, go to boy band concerts, and just hang out and talk. From the moment she was born, my first daughter and I were bonded. There is no real way to describe why or how it happened, it just did.

The Birth Of My Second Daughter

When I found out I was pregnant with my second child, I was terrified that there was no way I could love him or her as much as my first. Again, we waited until birth to find out the gender of our child. Inside, I secretly wished they would be a boy. Then I could at have a daughter and a son and not have to worry about comparing them. However, she was a girl. I instantly fell in love with her, just as I did with my first. Knowing that I could love them both SO MUCH, and equally, that made my heart swell. My second daughter is a little spit fire, and completely different from her sister. However, we still have a strong bond.

Yes, my girls drive me absolutely crazy at times. But our bond is still unbreakable. I would do absolutely anything for them. And I truly believe that they would do the same for me. I am looking forward to being there for them and helping them through the hard times in their lives. Their first heartbreaks, learning to drive, and dealing with mean girls – because we all know they will.

Lady Bird is a great movie where you see a bond between mother and daughter. It is available to take home now, and if you are a mom or a daughter, I highly recommend you do.

Marvel’s Black Panther Made Me Feel All Sorts Of Feelings

Warning, this post contains potential spoilers! If you have not seen Marvel’s Black Panther yet and wish to avoid spoilers, come back to this post at a later time.

This past week I finally saw Black Panther in theaters. I know, I know. I might as well turn in my Marvel fan girl card right now. We were at Disney when it came out and we had opted not to take the girls. (After seeing it, I am really glad we made that decision.) When we came home my husband had a lot of time to make-up at work and had to work late nights and the weekend. Then the following weekend, we had plans to go but had to cancel our sitter when the stomach bug hit our house hard. Finally, my husband and I made it to a Monday matinee. I am so glad that we saw this movie because it made me feel all sorts of feelings – from laughter, to sadness, and even shame.

I Felt Laughter

Black Panther wasn’t nearly as humorous as Guardians of the Galaxy and Thor: Ragnarok, but it was still a fantastic film. One of the funniest characters in the film was Shuri. When she said “What are THOSE!?!?!” I almost died from laughing way too hard. I literally had pains in my stomach. Letitia Wright, who plays her, is brilliant. She is beautiful, badass, and just so funny. I loved her in Black Mirror, so I was really excited to see her in this movie. She did not disappoint!

I Felt Sadness

Toward the end, when T’Challa and W’Kabi get turned against eachother by Killmonger, that hurt. Seeing friends fighting friends was hard. I would be lying if I said I did not tear up over it. It was Civil War all over again, which I was not prepared for. When Okoye and W’Kabi have that conversation on the battlefield – about if she would kill him – man, that was rough. That scene is one of the major reasons I am glad I decided against taking my 5 and 6 year old daughters to see the film. I don’t want to them to know there are things in this world that will turn brother against brother, friend against friend, lover against lover….because there are. They are too young to know that. I want them to hold on to innocence as long as they can.

I Felt Ashamed

When Killmonger says to just bury him at sea like his ancestors because they knew “death was better than bondage”, I started sobbing. I immediately felt so much shame. Man, my ancestors sucked. How could they do this to other human beings? I just don’t know. There is no other way to describe that moment, and several others where oppression was mentioned, as shameful. I wanted to pull my hood up over my head and hide myself. It is disgusting to me that this is something that actually happened in the world – that it is something that is STILL happening in this world. When it shouldn’t be.

I Felt Proud

Finally, I felt proud. Proud to be a Marvel fan. Proud to support a company that is becoming so great at shining a light on how important equality is. A few years ago, they threatened to pull out of filming in Atlanta if they passed the anti-gay bill, and now they put out Black Panther. This movie was necessary for so many reasons. People need to see this. People need to understand. Every human is equal. They just are – it is not something that is up for debate. And I hope everyone realizes that soon. It pains me to know that my girls are growing up in a world where there are humans that think other humans are less than them.

In my showing of Black Panther, there were two old white ladies. I am talking, at least 80 or 90 years old. They clapped at the end of the movie. That filled my heart with hope. It made me happy and it made me bawl even harder than I already was.

Bonus: I Felt Excited

Every true Marvel fan knows that there are stingers at the end of the movie. Black Panther has a mid-credit scene (which is great) and an end credit scene (which is even better). The final scene shows Bucky in Wakanda. He is talking with Shuri about having much to learn – I am guessing that she makes him a badass Vibranium arm. But one thing that really had me excited was the children calling him “White Wolf”. If you are a comic book reader, than you know White Wolf was a big part of T’Challa’s life in the comics. He was adopted by T’Challa’s father, T’Chaka. Perhaps the Marvel Cinematic Universe will combine parts of White Wolf with Bucky? Or perhaps we will see White Wolf in the future? One can only hope. My guess is that Bucky will drop Winter Soldier and go full White Wolf mode. Eek!

Mama’s Geeky Must Have Video Games Series: Scribblenauts Showdown

We are a gaming family. I mean, we have basically every gaming console ever made (yes I have the original NES still – although it is in the attic and not set up – but that is another story). When we first heard about Scribblenauts Showdown, we knew it was likely be an instant hit with our family. We love battling it out with each other and are constantly playing games like Mario Kart, 1, 2, Switch, and Bomberman. All four of us have some competitiveness about us, so this game was right up our alley! Luckily for us, Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment gave us a copy to check it out the day it came out – and we fell in love right away!

WHAT WE LOVE ABOUT IT

One of my favorite things about this game is that we can play together as a family – all four of us – if we want to. No taking turns to battle it out one on one (unless we want to in versus mode). Which brings me to another point, having three different modes to choose from is truly amazing. This game has brought hours and hours of laughs to our family already – in just 4 days! I highly recommend this for families and people that like fun. But if you aren’t a fan of fun, you can skip this one.

My five year old’s favorite came to play is the eating game because she likes to purposefully make her Scribblenaut throw up. Which is NOT the goal of the game. But watching her giggle as she does it is fantastic. My older daughter likes the racing game. And if we come across a SWAP OBJECTS game (where you make objects for the other person), they are really good at choosing bad items that can actually hurt their opponent. Girls after my own heart….

WHO IT’S FOR

This game is for families that love to have fun together! It has been less than a week and Scribblenauts Showdown is already one of the most played games in our home. We have been battling it out in showdown mode nightly! My daughters love playing versus mode together – and trust me, it can get pretty competitive. The girls also really enjoy sandbox mode. This game truly is fun for all ages!

Watching My Daughters Grow Up Before My Eyes with Kia

When the Kia Sorento was delivered to our house, I knew it was change our lives. From the moment I saw it, I could tell it would be a world of difference to drive in the winter, but that isn’t all that changed. You see, my oldest daughter is six (going on 15). We moved her carseat over, but we could tell that she was just getting too big for it. Our first weekend with the Kia, my husband went outside, and installed her Diono Booster Seat. I would be lying if I said I didn’t shed a few tears. To see her getting in the car and buckling herself, in the regular seat belt, tugged at my heart strings.

Watching my oldest daughter go from a five-point harness to using the seat belt that adults use, well, that was a little hard to swallow. I have always had to climb in the backseat and buckle her in. Now she can do that all herself. She tells me that the Kia made her a big girl – but that just isn’t true. It just helped us discover that she really is one. I can’t tell you how many times I catch myself looking at her in the rear view mirror and she just seems – big.

Every now and then I see her goofing around with her little sister and I imagine them as tweens, and teens. Still sitting in the back seat of the Kia. I can see them moving up to the front seat, and eventually learning to drive. For me, life is about adventure, about fun, and about family. We take our Kia Sorento on multiple mini-adventures every week, and are looking forward to a long weekend where we can explore together. I know I have to enjoy the time I have with them, before they want nothing to do with me.

Kia Sorento’s Safety Features

Thankfully, I fully trust Kia with their safety – even though it is hard at times to be vulnerable. The fact is, you cannot control everyone on the road, and you cannot control everything. And that means that for me, safety is the number one thing I care about in a vehicle. If I am going to be taking my daughters somewhere, my whole world somewhere, I want to make sure we are as safe as possible on the way there.

The Kia Sorento is chock full of safety features, making it my top choice for a family vehicle. The lane departure sensor keeps me on my toes. You never know when I might have to splitting up an argument in the backseat, from the front seat. Thanks to this amazing feature, I will know if I am drifting out the lane to stop anything bad from happening. There are even side curtain airbags in the second AND third rows! With a vehicle like this, it is obvious that Kia cares about the safety of my family, almost as much as I do. I mean, when compared to the Ford Edge, it crushed it in safety.

I know it will only be a matter of time before my daughters is climbing in to the Kia’s back seat and not in to a booster and a carseat. And one day she will even be driving herself. 3 Reasons Pitch Perfect 3 is a Must Watch Film!

Pitch Perfect 3 is hands down one of the funniest movies I have ever seen. Here are three reasons why you need to check it out!

I went and saw Pitch Perfect in theaters with my husband when it first came out. We are both big fans of Anna Kendrick and were very excited to see it. It blew us away and instantly hoped there would be a sequel. When Pitch Perfect 2 came out, we saw that in theaters too. Unfortunately, we were unable to get a sitter to see Pitch Perfect 3 in theaters, so I was super excited to get a copy in the mail from Universal Pictures Home Entertainment!

John and Gail are the announcers of the Bellas competitions, and are always hysterical! I have always looked forward to the competition part of the films to see what these two do. Trust me, they bring it in Pitch Perfect 3 too!

All The Bellas

From Beca to Fat Amy to Lilly – I adore all of the Bellas, and you will too! I fell in love with these girls in the first movie, and that love only grew as the series went on. All of the additions to the group were done perfectly as well. One of my favorite things is that the actresses can really sing! My whole family has fun dancing around to the soundtracks because they are really, really good! Pitch Perfect 3 has a ton of amazing songs that you are sure to rock out to!

The Humor

Be prepared to laugh your butt off while watching Pitch Perfect 3. If you thought no film could top the humor of the original Pitch Perfect, think again. I literally laughed until I cried (a few times) while watching this movie. If you love to laugh, this one is for you!

You might now know this about me but Winnie the Pooh was one of my favorite things when I was growing up. I had a giant stuffed Eeyore, Pooh Bear, and Piglet – that OK, maybe I still own. When I was pregnant with my first daughter, we did not know gender, so had to go with a gender-neutral nursery. We went with a Winnie the Pooh theme and my husband free-handed some amazing murals on the wall. So when I heard that Disney was going to make a new film, Christopher Robin, I was ecstatic. I knew right away that it was something the whole family was going to see in theaters. Today, the teaser trailer came out, and it is everything.

Watch My Trailer Reaction Video

I mean, the cast?!? WOW! This teaser is phenomenal and makes me even more excited for the movie than I already was. As you can see by my reaction video, it brought back so many childhood memories and my love for Pooh bear. I totally almost cried when I heard Pooh’s voice but tried to hold it in for your guys. My daughters are both big fans of Pooh and friends because we started watching the movies and reading the books from the moment they were born. I cannot wait to show them this teaser! Everything about it is perfect. And it is just the teaser trailer. I cannot wait for what is to come! I need more!

Trolls: The Beat Goes On first premiered on Netflix in January 2018 and was an instant hit in our house! The whole Smith family went to see Trolls in the theater and instantly fell in love with all of the characters. We have since watched the movie at least 50 times (likely more). So when we first found out about the Netflix show, we were thrilled. When the first few episodes were released, we binged them all in a single weekend. The fact that they are releasing more episodes so soon, has us over the moon. Thanks to Hasbro, we now have some amazing Trolls toys to celebrate with!

Avengers: Infinity War Will Be Released A Week Early – April 27th!!

If you guys know anything at all about me, then you know I am a HUGE Marvel fan girl and have been literally counting down to the release of Avengers: Infinity War. Well today I was browsing my social media apps as I normally do and then my world changed. I opened up Instagram and right there in from of my face, was a post from Marvel Studios. It was about Infinity War, but it looked….different. The date was wrong. It was no longer May 4th but a whole week earlier, April 27th.

I thought I was seeing things and even called my friend Amy from As The Bunny Hops to see if she was seeing what I saw. She was. We speculated on it being an oversees release date but nope. The stars had aligned and, despite it totally messing with our MCU Viewing Schedule, the movie I have been waiting forever for was going to be released early. And as if my fate, it was being released just a few days after my birthday. It was as if they knew.

In case you missed it, I posted the RSVP and Twitter Party announcement for our Infinity War twitter party. There are over $750 in prizes and they are all pretty darn amazing. There will be 11 winners total and each one will get at least 2 Marvel items. The grand prize? An American Tourister Marvel 28″ Spinner, a Mjolnir Electronic Hammer from GameStop, and an adorable Groot Wallet from Geek League Unlimited.

A New Watch Schedule

Well thanks to Marvel Studios, our whole #CountdownToInfinityWar schedule was messed up. Amy and I had to put our heads together and come up with a new one. So hear it is. Not much changed, we just moved each movie up by a day or two. Things are about to get fun and interesting! It kind of worked out that we got over the “hump” of the MCU and are not kicking it in to overdrive for all the REALLY good movies! Bring it on Marvel, I can’t wait!

Ralph Breaks the Internet: Wreck-It Ralph 2 Trailer & Reaction Video

Wreck-It Ralph is one of my favorite Disney movies. I mean, it has an incredible voice cast and video games. What more could I want? Nothing. The answer is nothing. When Wreck-It Ralph 2 was announced, I was beyond excited. Today, the trailer was finally released and I knew I just had to do a reaction video for you guys. I think it came out pretty good guys, and please, don’t laugh at me (or do).

My Reaction

When I say this trailer was everything and more, I mean it. It was hilarious, had some amazing visuals, and even a surprising moment at the end. If you haven’t seen it yet, do yourself a favor and watch it. You can see it above. And then, check out my reaction video below. I was already SO excited for this movie and I did not think it would be possible for me to be more excited. But I am. I totally am.
