The Legend of Vox Machina Season 3 Review: It’s Perfect

The Legend of Vox Machina season 3 continues the trend of perfect seasons from this series. Stakes are high, sending viewers on an emotional roller coaster.

The Legend of Vox Machina Season 3 Review

The Legend of Vox Machina season 3 catapults fans into a heart-pounding, high-stakes, emotional roller coaster of a season from the very first episode. It has been a while since season 2 and Critical Role wastes no time giving us what we have been craving. We have all come to know and love these characters, we are invested, we want what is best for them, and we never, ever, want to see them get hurt. Season 3 is going to do something to a lot of viewers, and not all of it will be good.

Vox Machina is still picking apart the Chroma Conclave. They have done damage, but they still have worthy foes to go up against. Thordak (voiced by the late, great Lance Reddick) is one of the toughest opponents they have come across so far, and he is going to give them a run for their money this season. The Legend of Vox Machina season 3 boasts some of the most incredible action sequences of the series, as they perfectly deliver a high-stakes feel.

But Thordak is not the only thing issue that Vox Machina is going to have to deal with. We know that romances have been blossoming, but certain people are holding back (these twins need therapy, y’all). Some of the most gutwrenching scenes in season 3 are because of these relationships, and not because of the big baddies Vox Machina is going up against.

Have no fear, though, there are certainly some spicy moments to counteract the struggles and stubbornness. We know these characters so well by now that The Legend of Vox Machina is able to fully dive into the development of their relationships, exploring the good, the bad, the ugly — and the sexy too.

The Legend of Vox Machina season 3 is stacked when it comes to guest voice appearances. It would be impossible to name them all, but just know that fan favorites return as well as newcomers, and all have their time to shine. A lot is happening this season, it is fast-paced with rarely any downtime, but don’t worry, there are quiet emotional moments, and they are allowed to breathe when they pop up. They are not rushed, and yes, some are extremely painful.

For those that have watched the Vox Machina actual gameplay campaign, you may think that you know what is coming, but there are surprises in store for you as well. Sure, you might know the key plot points that will be hit this season, but nothing can prepare you for how this season plays out. And keep an eye on the backgrounds, because the team puts in Easter Eggs and references whenever they can.

The Legend of Vox Machina season 3 may have devastation weaved into the fabric of its being, but it also has some truly inspiring and empowering moments – in particular when it comes to Keyleth and Pike. Again, I refuse to let spoilers slip but just know that there are moments that literally had me cheering on my girls, and clapping with glee. Everyone goes through it this season, as they tend to every season, but along with the high stakes, come even greater rewards.

Once again Titmouse knocks the animation out of the park. Some truly impressive sequences, locations, and visuals are brought to life in season 3. Episode 4, in particular, has some gnarly stuff that is an absolute feast for the eyes. I have so much fun taking it all in, and I know other Critters will, as well.

The Legend of Vox Machina season 3 takes viewers on a ride right from the very first moment of the very first episode. The stakes are high, the drama is juicy, and relationships are heating up. There are some very difficult scenes to watch and if you do not shed tears, you do not have a heart. Critical Role, thank you for another perfect season. Ten out of ten. No notes.
