The Umbrella Academy season 4 delivers a perfect, yet heartbreaking, ending for the Hargreeves and fans alike. This family will be missed.
When I found out that The Umbrella Academy season 4 was only getting six episodes, I was terrified that this would not be enough time to deliver an ending worthy of what this show has been since it first started. While there were certain things I would have liked to see explorred more, the length of the episodes allow for justice for the Hargreeves.
The ending is perfect and fitting, but it is also heartbreaking and depressing. It is satisfying, yet it hurts. This one hit me right in the heart and the gut, and yes, I sobbed like a baby. Partly because it is sad knowing that this is it for the Hargreeves family, but also because of the context in which the series ends (no spoilers here, don’t worry).
In just these six episodes, which vary in length, every single Hargreeve sibling is given a fitting arc. They are put through trials and tribulations, and forced to make real growth, something we have not seen them fully embrace yet. This is where the satisfying part of the series comes in.
Since we first met the Hargreeves, they have been going through it. They brought about the end of the world, twice, and lost each other along the way. At the end of The Umbrella Academy season 3, they were without their powers.
Thankfully, the way they get them back is fitting to the story that needs to be told, and happens quick enough that we are not waiting around for what feels like forever — something that is especially important given there are just six episodes in the final season.
The Umbrella Academy season 4 brings in some fresh faces as well. Nick Offerman (Dr. Gene Thibedeau) and Megan Mullally (Dr. Jean Thibedeau) are hilarious additions to the cast. They are the head of an organization called The Keepers, who are expecting a great cleanse to happen and set the timeline right. As you can imagine, this is not good for the Hargreeves siblings.
The Umbrella Academy season 4 goes out with a bang, that is for sure. There are a lot of increidble action sequences and callbacks to previous episodes. Family drama is at the forefront of most episodes, as the Hargreeves try to piece everything together.
The final season goes by quickly – too quickly – but at the same time it addresses everything that should be addresses and leaves viewers with no questions (only heartbreak). It truly is a fitting ending for the Hargreeves. They will be missed.

About The Umbrella Academy Season 4
The Hargreeves siblings have scattered after the climactic showdown at the Hotel Oblivion led to a complete reset of their timeline. Stripped of their powers, each is left to fend for themselves and find a new normal — with wildly varying degrees of success. Yet the trappings of their uncanny new world prove too hard to ignore for very long. Their father Reginald, alive and well, has stepped out of the shadows and into the public eye, overseeing a powerful and nefarious business empire.
A mysterious association known as The Keepers holds clandestine meetings believing the reality they’re living in is a lie and a great reckoning is coming. As these strange new forces conspire around them, the Umbrella Academy must come together one last time — and risk upsetting the shaky peace they’ve all endured so much to secure — to finally set things right.
The Umbrella Academy season 4 is now streaming on Netflix.
