Only Murders In The Building Season 4 continues the series’ hot streak as it delivers on perfectly timed comedy from everyone’s favorite trio. This review is based solely on the first seven episodes of season 4.
Only Murders In The Building was a brilliant series from the start, yet it somehow just gets better and better. Each season certainly has its ups and downs, but thanks to the incredible lead performances and the chemistry that Selena Gomez, Steve Martin, and Martin Short ooze, it is impossible not to love this show.
Season 4 picks right up with the consequences of the ending of season 3. Viewers saw Charles’ long time stunt double Sazz get shot in his apartment, cluing them into what this season was going to be about. That said, we never could have guessed that the trio was going to be dealing with being the subjects of a Hollywood movie while trying to solve the latest Arconia murder.
Struggling with the thought that Sazz was killed because of him, Charles is really going through it in Only Murders in the Building season 4. Oliver and Mabel are not far behind him, however, as they all are put off by the descriptions that the movie creatives have assigned to them.
Only Murders in the Building season 4 is incredibly meta thanks to the introduction of the actors that will be playing our favorite trio. This season is probably the funniest yet, and mostly because it is unfraid to poke at itself constantly.
Honestly, this was a brilliant move to shake things up this season. Having other actors come in portraying these three is not just smart, it is hilarious. Watching them try to recreate the mannerisms that we have seen this trio display over and over is going to have viewers filled with joy. Eva Longoria plays Mabel, Eugene Levy tackles Charles, and Zack Galifianakis portrays Oliver. These are truly fantastic choices.
Of course, Meryl Streep is back as well, as Oliver’s girlfriend. Seeing him finally find someone and be happy is one of the biggest bright spots of this series. It should come as no surprise that she continues to be one of the best parts of Only Murders In The Building.
When it comes to the murder mystery this season, it is one of the better ones. There is a lot of suspense and a lot of questions. Numerous suspects and not a whole lot of answers. After watching seven episodes I cannot say for sure that I know who killed Sazz. Heck, I am not even positive who the intended victim was.
Something Only Murders in the Building does so well is that it keeps the audience guessing. This keeps things interesting and keeps viewers engaged. If the murder is too easy to solve, most will lose interest. That is never the case with this show, and certainly not the case with season 4.
