House of the Dragon Episode 2×5: This Is Aemond’s World

House of the Dragon season 2 episode 5 is here and it proves that this is Aemond’s world, and they are all just living in it.

House of the Dragon Episode 2x5: This Is Aemond's World

House of the Dragon season 2 episode 5 has just aired, and it has proven that Aemond is the one in charge, with no one brave enough to go against him. In the previous episode, he took revenge upon his brother for the way he has been treated by burning him nearly to death. While the King did not die, Aegon is extremely wounded and will take a long time to recover. Someone will need to rule while he does so, and of course, Aemond volunteers himself.

Warning: Spoilers for House of the Dragon season 2 episode 5 ahead!

No One Will Stand Against Aemond

With Aegon down for the count, likely for quite a while, Aemond offers to rule while he recovers with a smirk on his face. It is clear that his mother, Alicent, suspects that he had something to do with his brother’s predicament, but no one will confirm this to her – not even her lover Cole.

In fact, Cole seems terrified of Aemond – and rightfully so. If he would nearly burn his own brother to death, surely he will not hesitate to kill others who stand against him. When Alicent throws her hat in the ring to rule the kingdom while Aegon heals – after all she did so when her husband was dying – the council votes in Aemond instead. Even her lover Cole goes against her.

It does not seem that Cole actually thinks Aemond will be a better ruler, but rather he is afraid of what his fate might be should he speak against him. But hey, at least Aemond has the decency to order the rat catchers finally be cut down.

Will Aemond ruling be the right choice for the Greens? The Blacks are ready to come back, dragons blazing, as they hunt for new riders with Targaryn blood – even if it is not pure. It seems this war is just getting started.
