Blood of Zeus season 2 is finally available stream on Netflix after fans have been waiting nearly four years for it, but is it worth the wait?
Blood of Zeus almost instantly gained a huge following among fans of animation and Greeky mythology. With high Rotten Tomatoes scores from both critics and audiences, there was no surprise that a second season was green lit. That was nearly four years ago, but the time has finally come for Blood of Zeus season 2. So was it worth the wait? The answer is a resounding yes.
With eight-episodes ranging from 24 minutes to 37 minutes long, fans are eating good. If you forget the events of season 1, they do a great job of catching you up, but I recommend re-watching season 1 because really, it holds up. Either way, however, viewers will be reminded of everything that went down, all of the drama and backstabbing – signature moves for the Gods, really.
In season 2, we are able to dive a lot more into the relationship of Persephone and Hades. Blood of Zeus season 2 is packed with incredible episodes, but the one detailing this particular Greek myth is a standout for me. Fred Tatascoire and Lara Pulver ooze chemistry, and, as we have established in the past, I really do love me a good villain.
I don’t want to talk too much about it for fear of spoilers, but these two have come to play, and they are certainly not messing around. At the same time, this episode makes you feel sorry for them a little bit, and kind of understand where they are coming from — something that is always important in storytelling. Of course, theirs is a well known story, but that doesn’t make it any less entertainign to see in this medium.
Something else I love is when powerful women are celebrated on screen and given the time that they deserve to shine. Hera, who was a bit of a villain in season one, is allotted exactly that in season two. Who can blame her, really? Not that two wrongs make a right but not many women would be perfectly fine with their husbands cheating on them repeatedly, just saying.
While there is a lot of Greek lore to explore in these eight episodes, it is done so in a way that is interesting for those who already know it, as well as those that are completely new to it. The inspiration is obvious, but the stories don’t follow the lore, not exactly anyways.
There is plenty of action weaved in throughout the drama, and as was true with Blood of Zeus season one, they do not shy away from the gore. In fact, they seem to lean into it even more this time around. There are some truly grotesque sequences (and I mean this as a compliment).
The first season made me a fan of most of the characters. I either loved them, or loved to hate them. But I must admit, there was very much a clear favorite for me in Blood of Zeus season 2 and that Seraphim (she says with hearts in her eyes).
Don’t get me wrong, I adore Heron as well, but Seraphim had me in his corner from the moment I learned more of his backstory. Again, I do not want to get into spoilers but just know that he has had a devastating life and there are clear reasons for why he has turned out how he has.
It took a while to get here, but Blood of Zeus season 2 was very much worth the wait. With just eight episodes, it is an easy binge. However there are a lot of details packed into the episodes so I recommend watching in groups of two or three so that you have time to sit with it all. Trust me, you will be thankful by the time the epic, massive, brutal, and utterly fantastic season finale rolls around that you did.
Now, let’s just hope we don’t have to wait as long for Blood of Zeus season 3 — which better be happening or we riot.

Following Zeus’ demise, a power vacuum emerges amongst the gods, leaving Heron, Zeus’ demigod son, struggling to find his place. He is racked with loss and hears a mysterious refrain in his dreams, prodding him to save his brother, Seraphim, who is suffering the terrors of the Underworld. Unbeknownst to Heron, Hades is trying to enlist Seraphim to help him secure Zeus’ vacant throne and save his family from their long standing suffering.

Blood of Zeus season 2 was absolutely worth the wait. It is bloody, filled with lore, and even mixes in a bit of heart.
