The Consultant cast interview

Nat Wolff and Brittany O’Grady discuss their new thriller series, The Consultant, in this exclusive interview with Mama’s Geeky. This series is a a twisted thriller that just gets better and better. Wolff and O’Grady explain what drew them to the roles, as well as working with the very talented director Matt Shakman.

What Was Your Response When You First Read The Script?

Nat Wolff says that he instantly wanted to be in this series after reading the script for The Consultant. “I was in love with the tone and the characters and the vibe, but it was really that twist at the very end of the first episode, where I was like, Holy shit. I screamed in my apartment, I was like, I have to be involved with the show no matter what. And I just started started pursuing the show like a rabid dog.”

As for Brittany O’Grady, she explains that when she read the pilot for The Consultant she figured out that Elaine’s story wasn’t going to be as linear as she thought. “She was gonna have this arc that really attracted me to this script. And I love being able to play a woman that’s determined and problem solving and empowered in her own way, but also trying to navigate the craziness of this storm of Patoff. And being able to work with incredible people like Nat and Aimee and Christoph was also a major draw for me.”

Working With Director Matt Shakman

Director Matt Shakman is extremely talented and critically acclaimed for his work on WandaVision, Succession, Game of Thrones, and The Great. He directs an episode of The Consultant as well, and when asked about working with him, both Nat and Brittany had nothing but great things to say.

Nat explains that he has been a huge fan of his for a long time, and says that he’s an incredible director. “What I loved was he was really sensitive to actors. He was a child star, you can find pictures of him. And he runs the Geffen Theatre Company in LA. So he’s really sensitive to actors’ needs.”

Nat goes on to tell a story that proves just how true that statement is. “There was one day where they were really rushing on set, and I was struggling in the scene. I just said, I don’t feel good. It just doesn’t feel right. And he said, Yeah, because you’re being rushed. He goes, let’s do this tomorrow. I was like, you know, Hey, nobody ever does that. You know, they usually just say ‘Buck up Buck up.’ But he’s like, we’ll do this tomorrow. I was like, That is cool. That’s so unique.”

Brittany adds that “he is a kind leader, and efficient and great and powerful. He leads with his heart, which I think made this experience really great.”
