She-Hulk: Attorney at Law episode 2 is here and filled to the brim with Easter eggs and fun. Here is our spoiler review and breakdown.
She-Hulk: Attorney At Law Episode 2 Review
We start this She-Hulk: Attorney at Law episode 2 with a call back from the last. Last episode Hulk said that the people choose your name, which is exactly what happens with She-Hulk. In order to determine her superhero name, one guy tries out chick-hulk and then the reporter replaces that with She-Hulk. This is a hilarious outcome after her conversation with Bruce.
Shortly into the episode Jennifer gets fired from her job for saving the jury. This is because it caused a conflict of interest. Speaking of call backs, this is a wonderful reference to the She-Hulk comic books where she had a case dismissed because she saved the jury alongside the Avengers. This is a perfect dilemma for Jennifer because it shows that she has to make a choice and though she might’ve regretted it later, we see later in the episode, that the choice paid off.
In the montage of her interviews with several law firms we see that the backgrounds get worse and worse, which is a cool montage trick they use in the comics. This indicates that her options are getting less and less desirable. As Jennifer is checking the internet for jobs, the side of the screen reveals some pretty insane and exciting Easter eggs.
Firstly we see the headline — man fights with metal claws in bar brawl — and all fans know this has to be a reference to Wolverine himself. The iconic image of Wolverine at a bar, post-barfight, is practically universally known making this headline is perfect. Mutants have been introduced into the MCU with Ms. Marvel, but there is a rumored deal where Marvel can’t introduce X-Men until 2025, so is this just a nod or a setup for the future?
But the next headline is something many have been mentioning on social media — Why there is a giant statue of a man sticking out of the ocean. This is of course a reference to the ending of Eternals where Tiamut is on the surface of the earth, now was a frozen statue. MCU fans have been wondering why no one has mentioned this yet, and now they have. It is subtle, but it is there.
Next up in She-Hulk: Attorney at Law episode 2 we see to a family dinner with Jen’s family. They are harassing her with questions about her job and being a superhero. The uncomfortableness of this episode really shines through because of the writing, and it represented her character really well. Everyone wants her to stay as She-Hulk because they like her eyes or her hair, but it hinders everything she truly wants to do.
Jennifer is drowning her sorrows at the bar when she is approached and asked to join the team at her once rival firm. Later we discover they want her to represent their new superhero law division — and request (but really demand) she remain in Hulk form when at work and in the courtroom. She is clearly uncomfortable with this.
Her boss says that her first case will be the take Emil Blonsky’s parole case. Fans know him as Abomination and will recall that he fought Hulk in the Incredible Hulk film. Even though there is a conflict of interest, Blonsky’s has waved it. Knowing if she doesn’t take the case she will be fired, she opts to at least go talk to him.
Here we see a surprisingly emotional performance from Tim Roth as he explains his entire story and how the US government mistreated him. This is a great background setup for Abomination and with a Thunderbolts project on the way, he could easily be inserted into that lineup.
After her meeting with Abomination, Jennifer calls Bruce to ask if he is okay with her defending. This is where one of the best jokes in the MCU pops up — when Bruce claims to have been a completely different person back then. Literally. Which refers to the fact that Hulk was played by Edward Norton, not Mark Ruffalo, in that movie.
Then we get a huge reveal that he is on the Sakkarian Ship from episode 1. This is a hint that World War Hulk is probably happening.
Right before She-Hulk: Attorney at Law episode 2 ends we see Walters officially accept the case. Her delight is short lived though as she turns on the news to see newly released footage from when Abomination escaped prison and was fighting Wong in the underground arena from Shang Chi. This is clearly old footage that was just released in light of his parole hearing, but this doesn’t look goof for her case.
That all for this episode of She-Hulk: Attorney at Law episode 2. A short and sweet episode that introduces us to the true lawyer side of the show. The rest of the show is sure to be packed with great story and humor — and we can’t wait!
