Pretty Little Liars: Original Sin Series Review

Pretty Little Liars: Original Sin is a mysteriously intriguing series that will keep audiences guessing the whole way through. This review is based solely on the first five episodes of Pretty Little Liars: Original Sin.

If you are looking for a teem drama that is packed with mystery, twists and turns, and a captivating story, Pretty Little Liars: Original Sin is for you. Original Sin has a great cast, that work together really well. As the series goes on, the young girls seem to get more and more comfortable with each other. The acting and writing isn’t perfect, but that is almost always the case with a teen show such as this one.

This story follows five young women who are being harassed by a mysterious person who goes by the name of A. Their lives are completely turned upside down by this person, who is framing them for something they didn’t do. The strange thing is, their mothers all seem to have a connection — and a secret — as well.

Right from the start it seems obvious who this A character is, however having only seen five episodes, we just don’t know yet. The clothing that this person wears makes it hard to tell if they are male or female, and of course they wear a mask as well. They come off as creepy and a bit disturbed, and are even the cause of a few jump scares.

The biggest issues with Pretty Little Liars: Original Sin are the same as most Freshman seasons of teen dramas. The writing isn’t polished, the dialogue is sometimes off, and the acting isn’t the best to start with. As the episodes go on, however, things start to settle in. By the time episode five comes around the show has really found itself. Which has us excited for what is to come.

There are twists and turns here, as the story goes deeper into the mystery of it all. It is captivating and intriguing and just gets better and better. A true teen drama mystery.

While there are connections to the original series, is it necessary to watch it before watching this one?

Do You Have To Watch Pretty Little Liars First?

Is it necessary to watch Pretty Little Liars before watching Pretty Little Liars: Original Sin? Absolutely not. This new series might follow the same sort of concept, a group of teens that have a secret and lie about it, and is even tied together with overlapping characters.

That said, there is no real need to watch the show because this series does a good enough job of catching new audiences up on what has occurred and what they need to know in order to understand it all. Particularly in episode three, which is likely the reason that HBO Max is dropping the first three episodes together. In fact, it might be interesting to watch Original Sin without knowing what happens — it adds to the mystery.

So, there is no need to watch the all seven seasons of the first series, Pretty Little Liars, before watching Pretty Little Liars: Original Sin. However, after watching Original Sin, you might want to check it out.
