Fairfax season 2 gives fans more of what they love from the first season, while still stepping it up a notch.
Animation is not just for kids anymore. Heck, it never was just for kids. There are plenty of adult animation shows right now, and Fairfax is one of the vastly underrated ones. Season 2 is now streaming on Prime Video and it kicks things up a notch while still keeping the heart and soul of the first season.
Fairfax explores the world of Los Angeles — specifically Fairfax Avenue, a real life place that sort of has its own culture, from the clothing to the food. The creators of this show grew up here, so they knew exactly how to portray the changes that have taken place on this block over the years.
One of the best things about this show is how relatable and real it feels, to an extent at least, and just how lovable the main characters (AKA the Gang Gang) are. Top that off with some hilarious adult humor, somehow heartfelt lessons, and a phenomenal cast, and you have yourself a hit of a show.
Season 2 sticks with a lot of the same things we saw in season 1, but is unafraid to venture outside the block — figuratively and literally. There are more great guest voices, and the same sort of humor that fans are used to, but this season goes bigger.
While it still focuses on the Gang Gang, there is a lot more time with the supporting characters. This should be applauded because each and every one of them are a wonderful addition to the cast, and deserve their time in the spotlight. If Fairfax continues this way for (hopefully) a third season, there is a whole lot that can, and should, be explored.
Some of the dialogue and situations can feel a little bit forced, but it is nothing that takes away from the season, or the series, as a whole. There are far more laugh out loud moments than there are eye rolling moments, so the few misses can be swept under the rug and forgotten.
Personally as a fan of the first season, I was thrilled with where it went in season 2. The final episode brings the season together in a cohesive manner, while still leaving the door open for more.
This show is far too underrated. With an amazing cast, hilarious antics, and somehow heartwarming lessons, Fairfax season 2 gives fans what they loved from season 1, but also raises the bar.
