WARNING: SPOILERS FOR MOON KNIGHT EPISODE 6

In Marvel’s Moon Knight episode 6, which is also the season 1 finale, Layla El-Faouly (played by May Calamawy) must become the Goddess Taweret’s Avatar so that she stand alongside Marc to fight Arthur Harrow and Ammit. When she does this, not only does she get a really freaking cool costume, she gets some superpowers as well. So what exactly are her powers?

Marvel has confirmed that this new identity of hers is called the Scarlet Scarab. While Layla does not have these powers in Marvel comic books, there is a Scarlet Scarab in late 1970s comics. The Scarlet Scarab is the protector of Egypt, defending his home from all foreign invasions. The Scarlet Scarab is an Egyptian nationalist named Abdul Faoul — by using an ancient artifact he becomes the Scarlet Scarab.

Scarlet Scarab Comic Book Powers

In the comic books, the Scarlet Scarab has superhuman strength. The artifact also allows Faoul to turn his bodily energies into bolts of mystical energy which he can fire at opponents. This energy can also be used to create a protective aura around himself that prevents bodily harm, providing a form of invincibility.

The Scarlet Scarab can fly, as well as drain powers from others upon physical contact. There is no mention of the Scarlet Scarab being Taweret’s Avatar in the comic books.

What Are Layla’s Powers As Taweret’s Avatar In Moon Knight?

As Taweret’s Avatar in Marvel’s Moon Knight, Layla gains similar powers. She has superhuman strength, which is evident when we see her stop a car with her bare hands and then rip the door off. Layla was always an expert marksman and combatant, but they improve when she becomes Taweret’s Avatar.

It can be assumed that Layla has the ability to heal thanks to Taweret, much like Marc does as Khonchu’s Avatar.

As for her costume, it has blade-like wings which can be used for flying at a very high speed. These wings are clearly very sharp, as viewers see her using them as a weapon, and a shield, in the Moon Knight season 1 finale. She also has two golden swords that she uses to fight with.
