CW’s Dynasty: A Recap of Events From Seasons 1 – 4

The CW’s Dynasty is set to return to our screens on The CW with Season 5, but what do we remember about the story so far? Here’s a Dynasty recap.

The CW Dynasty recap

Based on the 80s soap opera of the same name, Dynasty’s revival series made quite the entrance back in 2017. Fans of the original – and newcomers – were quick to fall under the allure of Atlana’s finest aristocrats, The Carringtons. Led by patriarch Blake (Grant Show), there’s nothing that can stand in the way of this devious family. So, where have we left Blake and his wealthy band of backstabbers?

Falliam’s Domestic Nightmare

Last season, wedding bells ring across the city. Fallon (Elizabeth Gillies) and Liam (Adam Huber) finally tie the knot. However, the celebrations are cut short when stalker Evan (Ken Kirby) pulls a knife on the blushing bride – this barely scrapes the surface of what’s to come for the fan-favorite couple. Instead of blissfully riding off into the sunset together, Fallon and Liam find that married life isn’t all it’s cracked up to be when they’re struck with one make-or-break after another.

Enter Eva (Kara Royster), Fallon’s scheming assistant and protégé, and Colin (Ashley Day), the heiress’ latest nemesis on the block. While their entrances are completely unrelated, Eva and Colin are ultimately the greatest threat to the Falliam romance – which, up until this point, had conquered overbearing mothers, amnesia, kidnappings, the whole 9 yards really.

With Eva twisting her claws into Liam, a wedge is driven between the couple and a vulnerable Fallon falls right into Colin’s arms – or more conveniently, the desk. It’s an opportunity Eva has been waiting for; she doesn’t think twice before leading Liam to a heartbreaking discovery. The future looks bleak for Dynasty’s strongest couple as Liam demands a divorce – and rejects Eva’s advances in the process.

In a Fatal Attraction meets Dynasty subplot, Eva pulls a gun on Fallon, leaving her fighting for her life in a coma. It’s with this that Liam realizes he’d rather work through their marital differences than lose Fallon completely. Similarly, something sparks the comatose heiress into a picture-perfect fantasy of starting a family with her husband and, by some miracle, she awakens to a tearful Liam by her bedside. Fans can take a sigh of relief because, for now, Falliam are on an upward path.

Blake’s Political Agenda

Trouble in paradise remains a common theme on the show. Blake tries sidelining his work after growing hellbent on mending his and Cristal’s (Daniella Alonso) problematic marriage. They’ve had a bumpy road – including an abruptly resolved cancer arc – but it doesn’t look like smooth sailing ahead. The relationship is weighted by deceit as the pair drift apart more than they come together, but ironically, the couple are strongest when their dynamic is at its worst – manipulating their way back to the top.

Hoping to restore his diminishing reputation, Blake sets out to secure a political career. It’s a recipe for disaster from the get-go. Despite bringing the husband and wife duo closer, the campaign is riddled with scandals. The plug is soon pulled when Cristal’s dodgy brother, Beto (Roberto Flores), shows up – now plotting against his sister – and Blake’s long-lost daughter, Amanda (Eliza Bennett), arrives.

Sibling Rivalry and A Shocking Exit

After Alexis (Elaine Hendrix) reveals she birthed a secret child, Amanda shows up to the manor and rocks the Carrington’s world. Though it’s soon revealed her intentions are nothing but pure, the latest addition quickly finds herself at odds with disturbed older brother Adam (Sam Underwood). As Amanda pokes around at his hospital, Alexis is jailed for the murder Adam’s former employee-turned-blackmailer – sparking more suspicion from Amanda.

Meanwhile, the eldest Carrington covers yet another one of his murders; this time a high-profile mob boss who’d been causing trouble for Sam (Rafael de la Fuente) and Culhane (Robert Christopher Riley). Sam and Kirby (Maddison Brown) also reel from the death of father figure (actual dad in Kirby’s case) Anders (Alan Dale). His demise comes as a shock to all with the beloved butler’s final deed being to rescue Fallon and Liam. This marks the first major character death since the original Cristal (Nathalie Kelley) back in season 1.

Now, fans are eagerly awaiting for the rest of the fifth series to air following a double-billed Christmas special. Very little has been teased so far for its premiere. However, this is Dynasty. There is almost a guarantee that the upcoming season with be jam-packed with addictive drama and twists galore, and we’ll love every minute of it.

About CW’s Dynasty

A modernized reboot of the 1980s primetime soap follows two of America’s wealthiest families, the Carringtons and the Colbys, as they feud for control over their fortune and their children.

Told primarily through the perspectives of two women at odds — Fallon Carrington, daughter of billionaire Blake Carrington; and her soon-to-be stepmother, Cristal, a Hispanic woman marrying into the WASP family — “Dynasty” not only features the glitz and gloss of extreme wealth, but also exposes the dark underbelly of a corrupt world built on backroom deals.

Dynasty Season 5 is currently airing on CW and streaming on The CW.
