The Cursed Movie Review

The Cursed is an intense and suspenseful movie that is filled with action, gore, werewolves, and terrifying scarecrows.

the cursed review

The Cursed (formerly Eight For Silver) is an intense and gory period werewolf horror film — and it is just as incredible as that sounds. This movie had me on the edge of my seat from beginning to end. I love a good horror flick and this one gave me everything I wanted in it, and more. There were several moments where I actually found myself gagging over the gore, and others where I was shielding my eyes. Yes, it is THAT good.

One of my favorite things about this film is the cinematography and the framing of the shots. It makes the whole thing absolutely beautiful to watch. Which just goes to show how incredible the director is. These intense and terrifying moments become mesmerizing and tragically stunning — which helped me get more into the story. If you know me, you know I love gore, so I was very happy with the level of it that they brought in The Cursed

I watched it in the dark with headphones in and I highly recommend this way of watching. I was in every moment and felt like I needed to keep looking over my shoulder. The Cursed brings the jump scares and if you enjoy them like I do, you will find yourself screaming, and then cracking up after.

The story itself is really good too. It focuses on the Romani curse side of werewolf lore and let me tell you the scarecrow in this thing is terrifying. I have always had an issue with them ever since Harold in Scary Stories To Tell In The Dark. Certain scenes from this movie are going to be burned into my head for weeks to come.

The Cursed is likely to have you in a trance, in the best way possible. This movie is intense and had my heart pounding throughout most of it. While I do think that the ending could have been a bit more satisfactory, I wasn’t mad at it. It works, I just wanted a bigger climax I think. My other issue with it is sometimes the werewolves could look a bit cheesy, although there were other moments when they were scary — just depended on the lighting and the scene.

If you like intense horror movies, period films, and gore you are in luck because The Cursed brings them all. Get ready for a wild and fun ride!

About The Cursed

In the late nineteenth century, brutal land baron Seamus Laurent (Alistair Petrie) slaughters a Roma clan, unleashing a curse on his family and village. In the days that follow, the townspeople are plagued by nightmares, Seamus’s son Edward (Max Mackintosh) goes missing, and a boy is found murdered. The locals suspect a wild animal, but visiting pathologist John McBride (Boyd Holbrook) warns of a more sinister presence lurking in the woods.

The Cursed comes to select theaters on February 18th.
