The 355 Movie Review: A Mediocre Action Movie

The 355 might have an incredible cast, but that doesn’t save it from being completely mediocre, very forgettable, and honestly, a bit dull.

The 355 movie review

On paper The 355 seems like an entertaining movie. One that features an all star cast and highlights a badass group of female spies. Throw in the extremely talented Sebastian Stan and it must be packed with action and enjoyable to watch — right? Wrong. While it certainly isn’t all bad, it isn’t all that great either. In between the admittedly fun, but forgettable, action scenes, is some very poorly written dialogue. Unfortunately it is a chore to get through anything that is happening when things aren’t being blown up, and people aren’t being chased.

The 355 follows a group of women who are tasked with tracking down a stolen top secret weapon, but it is extremely predictable, and not nearly as much fun as it sounds. The sad thing is all of these actresses – Diane Krugar, Penelope Cruz, Jessican Chastain, Lupita Nyong’o, and Bingbing Fan – are incredibly talented. They are just thrown into this lackluster movie with a mediocre script and asked to save it. But they can’t. Even Sebastian Stan feels like a character we have seen time and time again in movies like this.

This movie feels very much like the majority of action movies that we have seen before. There are moments that try to be complete shocks, but it is easy to see them coming from a mile away. At nearly two hours, it is far too long and nearly impossible to capture viewers’ attention for this amount of time. A shame, however, because the cast really is stacked.

That isn’t to say The 355 is all bad, the action scenes are pretty cool, and if you are looking for something to throw on your TV on a Friday night to pass the time, go for it. Just don’t expect anything new or super exciting. This movie is quite mediocre, a bit dull in between the big dramatic fight scenes, and quite frankly, very forgettable.
