The Mandalorian Season 2 Episode 2 “The Passenger” is clearly a filler episode for the season, but that doesn’t mean it isn’t a great watch!
The Mandalorian season 2 episode 2, titled The Passenger, is very clearly a filler episode for the season. We didn’t see any more of Bob Fett, who was shown at the end of The Mandalorian season 2 episode 1. There were no big reveals or Easter Eggs that I noticed — besides a few REALLY COOL X-wings.
Don’t worry, I wouldn’t expect too many more of these considering that season 2 will have just 8 episodes total. All that being said this was still a really great episode. One that will give me nightmare’s, but still great.
Warning: SPOILERS for The Mandalorian Season 2 Episode 2
This episode starts out with The Child and Mando riding a speeder through the dessert. They get trapped by raiders who are trying to steal The Child. I have a feeling these aliens could be working for Goff Mideon, as they were coming after The Child. However, one of them quickly makes a trade with Mando for his jetpack, and returns The Child. Too bad for him he doesn’t know how to fly it AND Mando has a remote for it. He is flown into the air, dropped, and assumed dead.
Mando and The Child continue on their route walking since their speeder was destroyed by the trap and end up in a cantina where Peli is playing a card game with Dr. Mandible. She notices Boba Fett’s armor and asks Mando if he killed the other Mandalorian. Mando confesses that the man, Cobb Vanth, is actually not a Mandalorian, and that he made a deal for the armor. However, this leaves him with no news on where Mandalorians may be.
Dr. Mandable says he knows of someone who can help, but Mando would have to cover his next round in the game. He accepts, Dr. Mandible loses, but Mando gets the information he needs. Peli introduces him to a Frog Lady that he must transfer first, however. She has eggs that need fertilizing from her husband in order to save her line and Mando must take her there. Eggs that The Child hilariously continues to eat, even though he is told not to.
After an altercation with two X-Wings (amazing guys), the Razor Crest crashes on a frozen planet (think Hoth) and they seem stranded for a bit. Mando wants to wait a l bit to sleep then repair the ship but the Frog Lady convinces him she needs to get to her husband by pulling the “I thought honoring one’s word was a part of the Mandalorian code. I guess those are just stories for children.” card.
While Mando is repairing the ship, she wonders off with her eggs to a hot spring. The Mandalorian tells her she can’t be doing this because it is dangerous and he can’t protect her out in the cold at night. As they are collecting the eggs out of the spring, The Child yet again tries to eat one. Mando stops him this time and the poor hungry guy wanders off to find something else to eat.
He find another egg but this one has a little baby spider-like creature inside it. Of course The Child eats it and well, cue my nightmares. Mama doesn’t seem too happy and neither do all the other babies, cousins, Aunts, and Uncles. The gang gets chased out of the caves and while they are putting up a fight, there are a LOT of these creatures to kill.
They end up back at the Razor Crest and get trapped inside. These creatures are spewing webs everywhere and trust me when I say if you don’t like spiders, you will hate this scene. They are all over the place — even The Child’s head! Lucky for Mando the X-Wings show back up to help out. They kill the remaining creatures and tell Mando that they will let him go because of the good he has done.
Mando fixes his ship and they head out. We can only imagine that the Frog Lady gets to where she is going and Mando is going to get the information he needs. If we do see her in the future, I assume it will be just at the beginning of the next episode.
The Passenger is a really fun episode of The Mandalorian with some great fight scenes and some insane creatures. Those spider things will live on in my nightmares because of just how real and creepy they looked. I also think that the Frog Lady looks really cool and I love the addition of the pulsing on her head.
This episode was most definitely a filler with no real addition to the story, but it is still more than worth watching for several reasons. Now I have my fingers crossed for more Boba Fett soon!
About The Mandalorian Season 2
The Mandalorian and the Child continue their journey, facing enemies and rallying allies as they make their way through a dangerous galaxy in the tumultuous era after the collapse of the Galactic Empire.
“The new season is about introducing a larger story in the world. The stories become less isolated, yet each episode has its own flavor, and hopefully we’re bringing a lot more scope to the show.” – Jon Favreau
