The Mandalorian is BACK with Season 2 and so much happened in episode 1 already! Here is my recap and review of episode 2×1!
The Mandalorian season 2 started off with an epic episode! It was so great to be back in this world with the stunning scenery and incredible characters. Did you guys notice those Banthas? WOW! The detail was amazing — right down to their mouths. There is so much about The Mandalorian Season 2 Episode 1 that I loved, so let’s get into it.
The premiere of The Mandalorian season 2 is filled with more adorable shots of The Child AKA Baby Yoda. There are moments with his ears flapping in the wind, him chewing on a spittoon, and more! I got my fill of cuteness, that is for sure.

WARNING: Spoilers for The Mandalorian Season 2 Episode 1
Let me start off by saying that many of what we saw in the trailers for The Mandalorian Season 2 is shown in this episode. Which I am totally OK with, I kind of love living in suspense! This episode starts off with a quick recap of last season and then we see Mando and The Child entering a building looking for Gor Koresh. He wants to know where to find another Mandalorian and apparently, Gor knows.
Gor doesn’t want to give up the information and in fact, he wants Mando’s armor. So he and his pals attack him. Of course Mando makes some quick work of them in a pretty amazing shoot out scene. He strings Gor Koresh up by his legs on a street lamp and threatens him unless he tells him where to find the Mandalorian. Gor says he will — if Mando promises not to kill him.
Mando’s response is perfectly worded, saying that Gor will not die by his hand. Once Gor gives up the location — Tatooine!! — Mando shoots out the streetlamp and lets the animals eat Gor. Yup, he is just as badass as ever.
Cobb Vanth
When Mando gets to Tatooine (with some direction from Peli Motto) he hits up a cantina to look for the Mandalorian. We see Boba Fett — well, his armor — show up. I immediately knew this wasn’t him. There is no way that his appearance would be that easy. Plus, the build wasn’t right.
Turns out this is Cobb Vanth who got Boba’s armor from the Jawas and has been using it to protect the town. Cobb and Mando stand off but are interrupted by a Krayt Dragon. That is when Cobb gets an idea. If the Mandalorian helps him defeat the dragon, he will give him Boba’s armor.
As they head out to confront the dragon, we see that Cobb’s speeder is part of Anakin’s pod racer! There are certainly some differences which shows this has been worked on a bit, but you can tell it just has to be crafted from Anakin’s pod engines.
EPIC Fight Against Krayt Dragon
Mando has a great idea, he recruits the sand people to the fight as well stating that if they keep fighting each other, the dragon will just pick them all off. They make a deal to work together to kill the Krayt Dragon and be at peace. The dragon lives in an empty sarlacc pit which is empty because…well.. the dragon ate it.
This leads to quite an epic battle against the Krayt Dragon. Seriously, it was amazing. The dragon is vomiting green acid stuff all over them, putting up quite a fight, and they are hitting back with everything they have. Mando and Cobb take to the air and it is one of the best scenes in the entire series. Seeing two Mandalorians flying around in jetpacks — that was amazing. Well, I guess one Mandalorian and one Codd Vanth in Boba Fett clothing… but still. What a scene!
Things are starting to look really bad but Mando allows himself, and a Bantha that is trapped with explosives, to be swallowed by the dragon. He uses his Amban sniper rifle to shock his way out of the mouth of the dragon and then hits the detonator, killing the dragon. Yeah, it was a pretty intense and amazing battle.
Cobb gives Mando the armor, saying it was earned and then… then I cried.
Boba Fett
Why did I cry!? We see Boba Fett in the final shots of the episode. Well, we have to assume it is Boba. The actor is Temuera Morrison, who played Jango Fett in the Attack of the Clones. As we know, Boba was a clone of him, but unaltered, so that he would age normally. It would make sense that they would look exactly alike.
Plus there are two other hints in this episode that mean it has to be him. His armor. And the sarlacc pit. But how did he escape? Who knows! Hopefully we find out soon, and see more of him ASAP. I need The Mandalorian season 2 episode 2 like.. NOW.
Overall Thoughts
The Mandalorian season 2 started off with an epic episode 1. There is so much to unpack in this episode. Not only does it feel great to be back in this world that we all know and love, there were some pretty big reveals here.
Boba Fett is alive! This is HUGE! While it has been speculated it is exciting to have it all but confirmed. I cannot wait to see more of Boba. Will he team up with Mando, or butt heads with him? I guess we will have to wait and see.
As for Timothy Olyphant’s character, Codd Vanth, I expect we will be seeing more of him as well. Timothy was incredible in this role and I really am excited to see what the future brings for him. Of course we got a couple of fight scenes in this episode. Mando vs Gor Koresh and his gang, and then the Krayt Dragon battle. Both of which were a lot of fun.
The Mandalorian truly is a mix of western, samurai, and Star Wars. Each episode just gets better and better. Mando and The Child seem to be on their way to finding the Jedi, and I am looking forward to seeing what happens next!

“The new season is about introducing a larger story in the world. The stories become less isolated, yet each episode has its own flavor, and hopefully we’re bringing a lot more scope to the show.” – Jon Favreau
