Things have been pretty crazy in the world right now, but if you are looking for something to take your mind off of it, I have you covered. Well, Netflix does. Eurovision Song Contest: The Story of Fire Saga is going to make you laugh. Like, a lot.

Honestly, Will Ferrell is very hit or miss. Usually hit, but sometimes his movies can fall flat. Don’t worry about that with this one because it is sure to impress you. Not only is it absolutely hilarious, it is actually a really fun story as well. It is filled with heart and the main actors all provide a stellar performance.

Eurovision Song Contest is a movie about a musical group named Fire Saga that is made up of Lars, played by Will Ferrell, and Sigrit, played by Rachel McAdams. They end up representing their country the world’s biggest song competition after an unfortunate event (no spoilers here but trust me, that scene is everything). No one besides themselves has faith in them.

Lars and Sigrit are very naive, which makes them so lovable. Dan Stevens plays the Alexander Lemtov who is also in the contest. He is also a playboy that has his eyes set on Sigrit. He is perfectly condescending and extremely passive aggressive.

I adore Dan Stevens because he is an amazing actor. He has such range and it feels like every character he is plays is totally different — and he pulls it off. He completely steals the show in this movie. And that is not to say anything bad about Will or Rachel, because they are amazing in this as well.

Of course there are a lot of musical performances, and each one is sure to have you dancing and singing along. The “song a long” at Alexander’s party was so incredible that I watched it at least five times in a row before continuing on with the movie. I couldn’t help but clap and cheer at the end.

The story itself is quite cute, actually. It is filled with humor, but also heart. A bit predictable, as most comedies are, and it does go on a bit too long, clocking in at just over two hours. Still, Eurovision Song Contest: The Story of Fire Saga is well worth a watch. Maybe even two.

Overall Thoughts

Within just a few minutes I was cracking up — and that continued on throughout the whole film. There were a few over the top performances from Will Ferrell, which is to be expected. And honestly? I loved them. This is probably my favorite comedy of the year. Maybe it is because not much has come out yet, but this is a must see movie if you want to laugh.

Eurovision Song Contest: The Story of Fire Saga is a hilarious comedy that the world needs right now. Filled with fun musical numbers, a little bit of heart, and a lot of humor — it is absolutely a must watch.

Netflix is truly stepping it up with their films. If you missed The Lovebirds, be sure to check that one out too!
