Did you know that at Disney’s Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge you can build your own droid at the Droid Depot? It is an unforgettable experience that every Star Wars fan needs to do!

    droid depot review

If you are a major Star Wars fan like me there are a few things that you just HAVE to do while at Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge. One of those is a visit to Droid Depot. Even if you can’t build your own droid, you need to check it out. However, if you can swing the $99.99 and get a reservation, I highly recommend doing it.

Two trips to Batuu in a row, we staked out the Droid Depot before finally deciding to pull the trigger on our third visit. And boy are we glad we did. This was one of the coolest experiences ever — and we came home with a really awesome souvenir. Don’t tell Disney but I would have easily paid double for our droids.

    Customization

When you sign in and purchase your droid plans you have two options. A BB-series or a R-series. You will be given a basket that lets you know which parts you need to collect off the conveyor belt. This is called the parts station and is a great way to kick off the process. Builders select from a colorful variety of components to customize your droid as they roll by on the shop’s conveyor belt. Yeah, it feels like you are in a real droid shop. I mean, I guess you are!

    The Build Station

At the build station it is time to follow the simple “placemat” instructions or graphic monitor displays in order to assemble your droid in the proper sequence. Don’t worry, there are also several techs that are able to help you out should you need them or have questions.

My daughters were 6 and 8 at the time and able to do most of the building themselves. I promise you, this is an experience they will never forget. Once complete, your droid will be paired with a remote control and activated as you watch it come to life!

You can then purchase accessories like a personality chip or serving tray for your droid.

    Get To Know Your Droid

After your droid is all done, bring it outside the Droid Depot to test it out! There is a padded area where builders can test drive their new astromechs and get used to the controls. We could have easily spent hours here — my daughters had a blast playing with other young builders!

Don’t forget to check out Smuggler’s Run while at Galaxy’s Edge!

    About Droid Depot

Build your own droid at Black Spire Outpost’s industrial depot on Batuu (At Disney’s Hollywood Studios). Visit a workshop stocked with parts, chips, manuals and other tech items useful for constructing your very own droid, one of the galaxy’s most indispensable sidekicks.

The experience area is limited to the builder and one Guest – at least one person in the party must be age 14 or older. Custom astromech droid units are nonrefundable and are not eligible for Annual Passholder or other discounts.
