The Disney Cruise Line shows are like nothing you have ever seen before. Beauty and the Beast on the Disney Dream is incredible — and I got a behind the scenes look!
Trust me when I tell you that you have never seen a cruise show until you have seen one on the Disney Cruise Line. They are all Broadway caliber shows and worth watching time and time again. And the newest show on the Disney Dream, Beauty and the Beast, is by far my favorite. To say that it is like nothing else you will ever see is an understatement.
I was completely blown away by this show. Now, let me say that I absolutely love the story of Beauty and the Beast. It is one of my favorites. Who doesn’t love the tale as old as time? Because of this I was really excited to see this show. I have heard wonderful things and I couldn’t wait to see it for myself. Did you know that it has even won an award because of how amazing it is? Well, I can certainly see why now.
Behind The Scenes Of Beauty and the Beast
While on the Disney Dream for the Disney Creators Celebration I was able to check out some behind the scenes for this show — and I was completely WOWed! Not only did I get to see the screens that they use to make this show unbelievable up close and personal, I was able to see some of the puppets that are used as well. Lumiere, Cogsworth, Mrs. Potts, and Fifi are absolutely mind blowing in the show. But they are done differently than you might expect. The actors are not only voicing them — they are playing them.
So what do I mean by that? Well, they aren’t covered in a black costume and hiding on stage like most puppeteers do. They are actually playing the character. Dressed like the character. But using the puppets as part of a visual representation. This was honestly one of my favorite parts of the show when I saw it in action. It gave these characters, some of my favorite Disney characters, more life.
The Set Itself
It is so hard to describe just how amazing the sets themselves are — especially when you look at them up close. The sides and back are lined with screens that are constantly changing to make the set look more realistic. Sometimes a forest, sometimes a castle, and sometimes storefronts lining the town. It is absolutely stunning.
These screens are used to take the story up a notch. Since this show is on a cruise line, there is a smaller stage than usual. The cast and crew has to work with a lot less than they might with a land show. You would never know it by watching this show. I was transported into the story thanks to the sets, the costumes, the puppets, and of course, the amazingly talented cast.
Worth The Cost Of The Cruise
I promise you, this show is worth the cruise cost alone. You might think I am crazy to say that, but it is true. I watched this show with my friends who were also blown away. My best friend has been on several cruises with other lines before and she said she has never seen anything like this. Shows like these are just one of the many reasons why Disney Cruises are so magical.
