    Spelling Bee Costume

Life gets busy — no one knows that better than me. As a busy mom of two kids that have decided to do every extracurricular activity they can think of, I don’t have time for anything. Which means Halloween can sometimes be challenging — especially since my girls refuse to wear anything that isn’t home made. Well, I teamed up with Laffy Taffy to make the EASIEST DIY Spelling Bee costume — and I am going to share how!

This post is sponsored by Laffy Taffy. All opinions are my own.

The best part about this costume is it takes less than 20 minutes to make. Honestly the longest part is waiting for the paint to dry (and that doesn’t take a super long time). Friends are sure to be impressed with this, as it looks a lot more complicated than it is. So take all the credit for a fun and creative DIY costume, just don’t tell them how simple it was to put together!

    DIY Spelling Bee Costume Materials

    Spelling Bee Costume Supplies

    • Yellow shirt
    • Twine
    • Black Fabric Paint
    • Black Marker
    • Poster board
    • Laffy Taffy (optional but they make a great crafting treat!)

Another great thing about this costume is that it won’t break the bank! We had most of these items at home already.

    Spelling Bee Costume Directions

First, lay the yellow shirt on the table and mark out evenly spaced lines across it.

Next, carefully paint every other bar, front and back, using the black fabric paint.

Cut the poster board into a rectangle and punch two small holes along the long end of the board. Then decorate the board with an entry number. Cut and loop the twine through the two holes in the top and knot them together.

You’re done! Now you can entertain your family in your Spelling Bee costume by guessing the punchlines to the jokes on the Laffy Taffy wrappers — don’t forget to spell your answers (you don’t really have to do this, but it certainly makes it more fun!).
