Game of Thrones: Who is Left to Sit on the Iron Throne?

game of thrones who is left

With just one episode of Game of Thrones left, we will finally see who will be left sitting on the Iron Throne. The last few seasons have left many of our favorite (and not so favorite) characters dead – so who is left? We saw several more killed off just in last week’s episode, leaving us with only a few good options.

game of thrones dany

Daenerys Targaryen

From the very beginning of this series, I wanted Dany to be sitting on the Iron Throne at the end. My love for her just grew and grew – especially these last three seasons. Daenerys freed slaves, stood up against tyrants, and became a GOOD woman. She had me in her corner, until she went crazy.

Now, this is something that was foreshadowed throughout the series, yes. I knew she would end up being the Mad Queen, but I didn’t want it. And I certainly didn’t want her to burn EVERYONE. Women, children… EVERYONE.

It was too much for me. And I think it was too much for Jon. Odds of her actually sitting on the throne at the end of all this now? Slim to none.

game of thrones jon snow

Jon Snow / Aegon Targaryen

Jon Snow, also known as Aegon Targaryen, is another person I was rooting for to rule the Seven Kingdoms. I was hoping that once he found out who he truly is, he would want to – but it didn’t exactly turn out that way. Sure, he recognized his lineage, but he still supported Dany.

Until now anyways. I cannot imagine that he will still call her is Queen after what she did. Especially since he witnessed it first hand. However, will he take the throne? I am not sure. If I had to guess I would say there is about a 50% chance he will accept who he is.

tyrion-lannister

Tyrion Lannister

Now this is a ruler I could get behind. Tyrion is very smart. And almost always fair and just. Would he be a good ruler? Absolutely. But would everyone else support that? Probably not. Plus once Dany finds out he let Jaime go, he might be in even bigger trouble. I am not even sure he will make it to the end of the series. But if he does, I would like to see him as the Hand to the King (or Queen).

arya stark

Arya Stark

I don’t think this is a very likely option at all. I love Arya, don’t get me wrong. She is amazing. She is powerful. And she would be a stern ruler. I think she is insanely smart as well. But is this something she would even want? Nope.

Arya would be better off as commander of the Army. Maybe teaming up with Brienne to run the troops. Her talents would be wasted on the throne. Big thumbs down for me on this option, which I honestly don’t think is much of an option anyways.

Bran Stark

Bran Stark

Could it be Bran? Or should I say the Three Eyed Raven? Or whatever it is he is going by now? No. Just… no. I really don’t think so. It just wouldn’t work. He is too busy knowing the past – and the future. And… maybe?! Hmm… No. No is my final answer.

sansa stark

Sansa Stark

This is where my vote lies now. Sansa has been through the ringer. And she has grown – like really, truly grown as a human. Remember season one when she was fawning over Joffrey? Being a giggly little school girl willing to take abuse just to be a Queen..

She is so different now. And I love it. She is strong and willing to do whatever it takes for her people, for the North. Sansa might also be the most likely to sit upon the throne at the end. Talk about a pretty awesome character arc.

Who would you like to see on the throne when the dust settles?
