If you follow me at all you know I was at the Avengers: Endgame World Premiere in LA last week. The second embargo broke, I gave you all of my spoiler free thoughts, but I still needed to process all sorts of feelings. By now you should have, hopefully, had time to see Endgame. But if you haven’t, please be warned, there are MAJOR spoilers ahead in this review.
WARNING: MAJOR SPOILERS AHEAD FOR AVENGERS: ENDGAME!
Avengers: Endgame was filled with humor, and action, and fun – as most Marvel movies are. But it also broke my heart. More than once. If you think Infinity War ripped your heart out, just wait. If you missed it, be sure you check out my 10 most emotional moments of Avengers: Endgame.
How The Avengers Saved the Day
We all knew that the Avengers would be using some sort of time travel, right? I mean, it was obvious from the trailers. This could have been really cheesy but honestly, I love how it was done. The Russo Brothers tied together all of the movies by bringing the scenes from past films. This was brilliant on their part, and really made it come full circle for me.
I also liked how they had Professor Hulk and the Ancient One discuss time travel and the effects of it. This made it clear why certain things happened and certain things didn’t. Why was Nebula still alive after she shot her past self? Hulk explained this when he said your past becomes your future. This was necessary to fix some things that would have otherwise been plot holes, and I think it was smart to preemptively address it.
Black Widow’s Sacrifice
I did not see this coming going in to this movie. Black Widow is not someone I expected to die at all. However, I loved seeing her story come full circle. This character arc was amazing, and did her a lot of justice. Once her and Clint were tasked with going to Vormir, I knew it would be one of them. Out of the two – I am happy with who it was. It made sense for him to go back to his family.
Bye Bye Thanos
I was so happy to see Thanos get a taste of his own medicine. Watching his whole army disappear to dust – especially when Ebony Maw reached out (reminded you of that Tony/Peter Parker moment, didn’t it?). REVENGE. That is what I have to say about that. HA! How do you like it?
The Death of a Legend
Iron Man’s death could not have been more perfect. You guys know that I am a HUGE Iron Man fan, but the way this was done – made sense. Tony Stark would never have sacrificed himself and his happiness to save the universe like this early on in the MCU. And to see how he has changed, through 22 movies, is just incredible. Tony deserved a death like this. And I am glad he got it. I love him 3000.
The Ending I Wanted for Captain America
Captain America has never been at the top of my favorite superhero list. But that doesn’t mean I don’t want to see him happy. I have been saying for a while now that I thought he would stay in the past with Peggy at the conclusion of Endgame, and I am so glad he did. And the fact that Tony inspired him. Love it.
That Stan Lee Cameo Though…
It has been said a few times that this Stan Lee cameo will be the last. At least the last that was specifically filmed for a certain movie. I am sure they have other footage of him they can edit in other movies, and of course, he can always appear in other ways and references. So what did I think about Stan the Man’s LAST cameo? And what was it…
The End Credit Scenes
Every Marvel fan knows to keep their butts in the chair until the very end of the movie. I admit, I wasn’t sure we would get any end credit scene in Avengers: Endgame because, well, the movie itself is so final. The MCU is moving on to a new phase after Spider-Man: Far From Home, and were they planning to tease it for us, or leave us wondering? Of course I wanted some end credit scenes, don’t get me wrong, I just wasn’t sure we would. And if we did, were they going to be anything significant? What we got was not a scene, but a sound. You hear metal clanking which sounds similar to Iron Man 1, when Tony was building his first suit. Is this a nod to him, now that we have lost him? Or was it a hint at something to come? Personally, I am hoping that is Iron Lad building his suit.
As for everything else – I loved Thor, and cannot wait to see him join the Guardians for Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3. I mean, that is totally what is happening? Right? I hope we see more of Clint, but I wouldn’t be surprised if he retires for real now. And Ant-Man and The Wasp! YES! I am all for them doing more together in the future as well. Plus, we are totally getting Young Avengers. Right?!
Avengers: Endgame is in theaters now!
The grave course of events set in motion by Thanos that wiped out half the universe and fractured the Avengers ranks compels the remaining Avengers to take one final stand in Marvel Studios’ grand conclusion to twenty-two films, “Avengers: Endgame.”
I was close with some of the things I predicted in my breakdown of the second Avengers: Endgame trailer.
