National Sugar Awareness Week is an initiative designed to urge Americans to cut sugar from their diets and/or at least lessen their normal sugar consumption. It was this week (Jan 18-22) and I did what I could do lower my sugar intake. The beginning of the week was really difficult – especially since I normally use creamer and sugar in my coffee. I grabbed some sugar free creamer and tried that, and it really wasn’t bad at all! I definitely grew used to it by the end of the week.
The USDA’s 2015 Dietary Guidelines were released recently urging Americans to reduce sugar intake to less than 10% of their calorie consumption – and reading this along with my husband really had us thinking about what we feed our girls. So I was really excited about giving Aquaball Waters to them. Now, we have tried this stuff before and they love it – but were still asking for juices that are full of sugar. Since removing the juices from our house, they have stopped asking for them (out of sight, out of mind I guess). Aquaball is a a zero sugar and zero calorie children’s beverage that features all of their favorite characters like Frozen and other Disney Princesses! One of their favorite things this week was adding some food coloring to their drinks (to make them fun colors like some juices) and using our Soda Stream to fizz them up! They really enjoyed this, feeling like they were getting a special drink – and it was really easy to do! You can find Aquaball at any of the stores listed here.
While we did not make it through the week with no sugar intake, I was reading labels more and paying more attention to what we put in our bodies. We cut out at least 50% of our normal sugar intake and feel much healthier for it! I think we will continue to do this often. I think it is really important for everyone to cut their sugar intake when possible – if I can do it, so can you!
