As you may already know, I was selected to attend the D23 Expo with 24 other amazing bloggers next month and I am beyond excited! From the second I found out I was going, I started thinking costumes! I have always wanted to cosplay at a con and this is my chance. So many thoughts were running through my head. I love Disney, Marvel, & Star Wars equally so what is a girl to choose? Well, there are three days which means three costumes, which means one for each. That is the current plan, however, I cannot say for sure what I will decide on. I am not crafty when it comes to clothing at all. I once made myself a Rogue costume and it was, well, it wasn’t pretty. So if you are not crafty at all and need some cosplay ideas, you have come to the right place. Since I have been researching all week, you get to reap the benefits! Below are my top 10 costumes and where to find them!
Frozen is still just as popular as the day it came out. My daughters and I watch it at least once a week and we love all of the characters equally. I am hoping to get together with a couple of the other bloggers to go to the D23 Expo as Anna, Elsa, & Olaf. I have brown hair and wear it in braids a lot so that makes me Anna! I plan to draw freckles on my face as well. I have searched and searched and I think the best Anna & Elsa costumes come from ProCosplay.com. Their Anna & Elsa cosplay costumes are dead on! I found the cutest Olaf hoodie at Hot Topic that would be perfect if you want something easy and fun. (I grabbed one for myself too!).
I am a huge Star Wars fan. My husband and I even went to Star Wars Weekend at Disney World for our honeymoon. We may or may not have planned our wedding around the schedule so we could do this – shhhh…don’t tell anyone. I was looking for a costume that would be comfortable but still super cute and fun. I didn’t want anything too risque because I will be there for work and also because, well, to be blunt, I am a mom now and try not to dress in revealing clothes. This dress looks super comfy and is adorable of course! It may be a little short, but that is what leggings are for, right ladies? I did order it and it should be here next week! I cannot wait to try it on. You can purchase this R2-D2 dress at Hot Topic here.
I love Tinkerbell – and the other fairies! In fact, Vidia is totally my favorite. There is something about her attitude that just draws me to her. I hope that is not saying anything about me! My husband and I are taking our daughters to Disney World in October for Mickey’s Not So Scary Halloween and we have been working on costume ideas. We are thinking about going as the fairies (Tinkerbell, Vidia, Nyx, & Terence) and so I thought this costume might double as a D23 Expo debut and then I can wear it at Disney World as well. I bought it and cannot wait to try it on! You can purchase this Tinkerbell costume at Hot Topic here.
Inside Out is the latest Disney/Pixar film and it is wildly popular – with good reason. There is a stellar cast and the plot is incredible. The lessons that it touches young children and extremely important. (Read my full review here). I love all of the characters – although Sadness stole the show for me. I expect to see a lot of Joy, Sadness, & Disgust costumes at the D23 Expo this year and I cannot wait! Because it is so new, these costumes can be hard to find. You may have to DIY Sadness – but she is easy – over sized blue sweater, blue shorts/pants, and blue wig. AZCostume.com has really cute Joy & Disgust dresses (although Disgust’s looks more blue than green in the photos). Don’t forget your memory spheres!
Ah, Belle. My favorite Disney Princess of all time. When I was young, I could always be found with a book in my hand and I think that is why I could relate to her so much. I remember when I went to Disney World for my 11th birthday I got to meet her – on my actual birthday – and she signed my autograph book with “Happy Birthday”. I was so excited! I thought she would be really fun to dress up as. Of course, you could do the yellow ballgown Belle but I LOVE the blue and white dress Belle. She just looks so down to Earth in that outfit. I also think it would be a lot more comfortable to walk around D23 all day in. I love this Blue and White one from Emerald City on Etsy. And ProCosplay.com has an incredible yellow ballgown Belle costume!
Cinderella is a classic beauty. She is one of the most popular Disney Princesses and so of course, I thought about dressing as her. After doing some research I thought that trying to get a Cinderella costume across the country and then wear it all day might be a little much for me. But if you are closer or want to try it out, I have found the perfect cosplay costume for her from Coswigshop.com! How gorgeous is it?
Oh Hawkeye, you poor thing. You are the most underrated Avenger. I have always been a huge fan of Hawkeye. I love Clint Barton in the comic books and Jeremy Renner plays him perfectly! I like archery and maybe that has a hand in my love for him as well. I looked for a female Hawkeye costume for a long time but could not find anything I could just purchase. This would have to be a DIY one and since we have already established I am not the best at this sort of thing, I am going to have to pass. I did include a photo for inspiration that I found on Pinterest from Lisa Marie Cosplay.
Several Halloweens ago I made my own Rogue costume. It was a mess – and the fact that I was 3 months pregnant at the time and living in hot Florida did not help the situation. I destroyed the costume so I would never attempt to wear it again. I would love to attempt to be her again, but alas, her outfit is not very forgiving. If I was 30 lbs lighter I would go for it. For those of you daring enough for the skin tight spandex, here is the link to my favorite costume that I found at AZCostume.com.
Avengers are pretty big right now – and why not, they are pretty awesome if you ask me. As an avid comic book reader, I was thrilled when they started making all of the movies. And the fact that they are doing all of these characters justice while making the stories their own, makes me love Disney Studios even more than I already did. Black Widow is the only female character of the Avengers (in the movies anyways) and so I am sure she will be a popular choice this year. I browsed several costumes and finally found my favorite at By The Sword here.
If you have read the comic books than you know Loki became a female at one point. That is all I will say, I refuse to spoil anything else about the story line. Because of this, she would be a great character to dress up as. Loki is one of my favorite villains. You cannot help but love him/her sometimes – and even I have found myself tricked by Loki’s deceptive ways. Her costume accessories can be elaborate or simple, but it is sure to look amazing no matter how you wish to accessorize it. I found the perfect one on Etsy from Cosplay Gaijin here.
