Tobacco Free New York State Urges Public to Protect Children | #SeenEnoughTobacco

As a mom of two young kids, one thing I am very concerned about is tobacco and cigarettes. They see them everywhere and my husband and I have been trying to teach them about how unhealthy they are. Yes, we even sometimes over exaggerate with words like “ew” and “gross” when we are near someone smoking, but it seems to be helping. I was very pleased to hear about the Seen Enough Tobacco Campaign that Tobacco Free New York has launched because kids really have seen enough.

Every once in a while I really open up to you guys and get (probably) too personal. One of my very first posts was about my home water birth with my youngest daughter. I am not sure if I have really mentioned it before, but my first pregnancy ended in a miscarriage. My husband and I had only been married for a couple of months and were thrilled. When we found out we lost the baby, it was extremely hard. In fact, it was not confirmed for about a month which was very hard on us.

I have never run a race in my life. My husband was a runner in high school though, so he is not stranger to them. I have always wanted to do a 5K or 10K – especially with Disney – so I was thrilled to learn about the Castaway Cay 5K that I could run while on my Disney Cruise! As tough as it was, it was actually a blast – and I was so proud of myself after doing it. I finished in 36 minutes, which I think is pretty good considering I was eating cruise food and enjoying wine for 6 solid days before it! I enjoyed it so much that I think I caught the running bug! I am hoping to do a run at Disney World next – perhaps the Princess Run?!?

While much of the world got a hearty laugh out of the well-meaning gesture of college officials handing out Play Doh to students who were distraught over Donald Trump’s victory in the last presidential election, it was a nice thought. Actually, it did something to lighten the spirits of some people. However, it did little for those who were running around campuses destroying everything in sight. Some psychologists suggest that we forget therapeutic Play Doh and focus on growing plants instead. I decided to take control of my life again this year. Being a mom of two little ones, a wife, a housekeeper, and still running this site has taken a lot out of me the last few years. I am not saying that I am not happy – because I am – but I gained weight, have been having too much wine (no such thing though, right?), have stopped working out, and have slipped back in to very poor eating habits. For my New Year’s Resolution, I promised myself that this was all going to change. I have started Nutrisystem, set a great workout routine again, picked up some new books for some me time, and best of all – my husband is doing it all right along side me. Having his support is going to make a huge difference -and already has. In just one week I feel more relaxed, have lost 8 lbs and 1.5 inches off my waist, and feel a stronger bond with my kids and my husband.
