5 Comic Books Every MCU Guardians of the Galaxy Fan Should Read

If you are a fan of the Guardians of the Galaxy films, take it from a comic book nerd like me, there are some books you just HAVE to read. If you want some great movie tie-ins and backgrounds on your favorite characters, these are the ones for you. Ideally, I would love to convince you all to go to your local comic book shop or look online and pick up every single issue that any of the Guardians appear in – but that is asking A LOT, I know. So I put together 5 of my favorite comic books (OK, a few are trade paperbacks) that any Marvel Cinematic Universe fan should pick up.

The Infinity Gauntlet

The Infinity Gauntlet

If you can’t go all the back to when it started, this is a good place to pick up at. This is a story that is important for all Guardians fans to read, if you ask me. It paves the way for Infinity War, which all fans of the MCU know is coming to the big screen. This book gives you a lot of information on Thanos as well as Adam Warlock. If you want to pick up on any comic book nods throughout the films, as well as have a good background of what is going on, this is a must read. Purchase on Amazon here.

The Infinity War

The Russo Brothers are directing Avengers: Infinity War. Now, the odds of it being exactly like the comic books story line are slim to none. But that doesn’t mean reading through the trade paperback would be a bad thing. I am sure there will be similarities and nods throughout the film that will be fun for those that know the story. Infinity War is one of my favorite story lines – and gives you a lot of background on Adam Warlock/Magus, who we are going to see in the MCU soon! Purchase on Amazon here.

Guardians of the Galaxy Complete Collection

Guardians of the Galaxy by Abnett & Lanning: The Complete Collection Vol 1

This has a lot of good Adam Warlock stuff in it, in my opinion. If you don’t have a good background on him, you might want to go a little bit further back (don’t worry, I have you covered with Infinity Gauntlet & Infinity War), but this is some of the best Guardians stuff out there. You will discover just how powerful Adam is and why him entering the MCU is a BIG deal. I also totally love Quasar, and I think you will too. During this story line, you will see Cosmo too, who I just love! Purchase on Amazon here.

All New Guardians of the

All-New Guardians of the Galaxy #1
(2017)

This one JUST started guys (May 2017) so it is the perfect time to pick it up. I have only read the first one but I feel like it has great potential. And the best part – BABY GROOT! It brings the old team together and weeded out the few members I wasn’t a fan of (like Thing – sorry but I just didn’t like him as a Guardian). Also, the Grandmaster is in it, so I can’t help but think there may be some MCU tie-in stuff going on. Purchase on Amazon here.

Guardians of the Galaxy Mission Breakout

Guardians of the Galaxy Mission Breakout #1

Not only is this just a great all around read, but it is based on what the ride at Disneyland is going to be! Now, I really can’t wait to make a trip out there to ride it. The comic seems to me like it is totally based on James Gunn’s Guardians. As I read through the pages, I cannot help but hear the actors’ voices in my head – it is that spot on. At parts, I was laughing out loud. I have reread it a few times already, this is a must pick up! Purchase on Amazon here.

The whole Civil War collection is awesome. I think if you're a fan of DC anything that's Batman and written by Grant Morrison is amazing as well.
